Leapfrog Press

Leapfrog Press U.S. publisher of quality fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Leapfrog Press was created to search out, publish, and market books that tell a strong story.

Annual Leapfrog Press Global Fiction Prize Contest in collaboration with Can of Worms Enterprises (UK). Our list is eclectic and includes quality fiction, poetry, and nonfiction; books that are described by the large commercial publishers as midlist, and which we regard as the heart and soul of literature. We're always on the lookout for new talent. Some of our best writers have trouble placing th

eir books with the conglomerate-owned publishing houses because their books are not perceived as best-seller material. We see ourselves as a home to new works by accomplished writers and works by those just starting out. We're keenly aware that good writing is only the beginning. A successful book must be guided through its journey to reach the right audience. Our publishing program includes hardcover and paperback originals as well as revised and repackaged trade paperbacks. What we promise is writing that expands our webs of connection with other humans and the natural world; books that illuminate our complexities; tough, unsentimental books about our difficult and sometimes insanely funny choices in life and how we make them.

The latest PG Wodehouse book from Paul Kent is here! Grab your copy here: https://www.whatho.club/product-page/plum-s-literary-heroes

P.G. 'Plum' Wodehouse is the greatest humorous writer England produced in the 20th century. The creator of Jeeves and Bertie, the Blandings saga, Ukridge, Mr Mulliner, Psmith and Uncle Fred, his output totalled almost 100 volumes of peerless comic invention. But where did all that material come from? Not just out of his head, no matter how large his hat size: in Wodehouse's case, much arrived courtesy of his voracious reading habits, everything from Shakespeare to W.S. Gilbert via the Bible, Tennyson, Sherlock Holmes, gung-ho schoolboy fiction, gory pulp thrillers, the gloopiest romances and literally hundreds of other writers - even T.S. Eliot. No other writer had a broader range of influences. In his latest groundbreaking study, Paul Kent, author of the Pelham Grenville Wodehouse trilogy of literary biographies teases out Plum's literary roots, and how he expertly blended elements from all these writers and genres into the heady cocktail that keeps the world laughing over a hundred years on from when he first created it. It's an alternative history of English Literature that will also make you laugh out loud.

As we come up to the end of the first week of Leapfrog’s summer reading program, take some time to reflect on “The Aves” with this reading activity from the author herself, Ryane Nicole Granados:

Power of Place:

Think about a significant place in your life. It can be a neighborhood, one block, inside a building, in your classroom, or a whole town.

DRAW A MAP of that area (in whatever style YOU this is best!).

Power of People:

Think about the other unique people in your place. Add them doing something on your map.

Think about important events that happen there. Add some details to show that. It can even be a symbol or word.

Power of YOU:

When you look at your map, the people, and events, what is the strongest emotion you associate with that place? Write that emotion at the top of your paper.

This is the starting place for your story.

Additional questions for inspiration:

What is something that could happen to You and the other people in that place?

How can your presence change a place?

Think about the power of your name. What does it mean to you?

You are the primary source of powerful storytelling.

World Refugee Day is an international day organized every year on June 20th by the United Nations. It is designed to celebrate and honor refugees from around the world. The day was first established in June of 2001, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.

Leapfrog Press is proud to publish a number of titles, fiction, non-fiction and YA in verse that explore and expose the plight and resilience of refugees.

Anne Frank Award Winner, Irene Butter’s moving account of her life From Holocaust to Hope.

Reading Claudius, Caroline Heller’s unforgettable dual memoir of her parents’ lives and her own brings to life the lost world of European café culture, and reminds us of the sustaining power of literature in the most challenging of times.

Timothy Jay Smith explores through fiction the plight of contemporary refugees fleeing Syria in Istanbul Crossing and Fire on the Island.

Based on true events, Pamela L. Laskin’s YA free verse, Why No Goodbye? captures the anguished survival of a 13-year-old boy after he is abandoned by his refugee family in war-torn Myanmar.
