Crews from Dunn Emergency Services and Dunn Police are on scene of the 100 block of N. Ashe Ave for a chemical spill from a local delivery truck.

Currently crews are trying to identify the chemical/ liquid but until the investigators locate the container, they are not able to properly identify it.

The delivery truck appears to be from a soap manufacturing facility on N. Ashe Ave.

No evacuations have been ordered but N. Ashe Ave is closed from W. Broad St to W. Harnett Street.

Delayed Johnsonville/ Cameron communities of Harnett County

Just before 12pm, Spout Springs Emergency Services was dispatched to the area of the 1100 block of Ponderosa Road for a vehicle crash.

Units arrived on scene to find a head-on crash between a Kia Soul (SUV) and a Nissan Pickup.

The Nissan Frontier pickup was rear end down in the ditch and the SUV was across the roadway.

The driver of the Kia was pronounced deceased inside the driver seat.

The (2) female occupants in the pickup were entrapped and once freed they were transported to Womack Army Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Road is closed from NC Highway 27 to Johnsonville School Road. Detours are in place.

Lemmuel Layne (29) of Hillmon Grove Road Cameron was identified as the deceased driver of the Kia.

The Nissan occupants are listed as driver Daphne Pervis and passenger Heather Mock.

Interestingly both drivers lived less than 4 miles from the accident scene and about 1/2 mile from each other on Hillmon Grove Rd.

Preliminary investigation is the Kia traveling east/south on Ponderosa Road coming out of a curve crossed the center line striking the pickup head on. The Kia driver was not restrained. Speed is a factor in the crash with the investigators estimating the speed of the Kia at 65 in a 55 mph zone.

At 8:56pm, Harnett County Deputies responded to the intersection of NC Highway 24-27 and Mckoy Town Road for a reported break-in with breaking down door, the reported person breaking-in began shooting.

Deputies arrived and located shell casings along with blood at the front of the residence.

No victim was located at the scene.

There is a walk in gunshot patient at Cape Fear Valley Hospital that might be related to this shooting.

Highway 24-27 is closed from Mckoy Town Rd to Claude White Road in the Cameron/ Johnsonville communities in Harnett County.

This is a fluid situation with information begin vague. The information will be updated as it becomes available.

Herring Fire Rescue (Sampson) and Sampson EMS was dispatched to the 1100 block of Feed Mill Rd Roseboro for a vehicle crash.

Units arrived on scene to find a overturned semi tanker truck in a field and a passenger car turned sideways in the roadway.

The female driver of the passenger car was injured but will seek medical care on her own.

The Truck driver was sitting on top of the overturned cab to the tractor trailer. Firefighters used a ladder to assist the driver off the vehicle.

NCSHP Troopers are conducting the investigation.

Preliminary investigation is the tractor trailer was headed north on Feed Mill Road and was approaching a passenger car headed south. The driver of the passenger car crossed the center line into the path of the semi. The semi driver attempted to avoid the collision be traveling onto the right shoulder of the road. The collision still occurred causing the semi to travel into the ditch in which caused the tractor and trailer to overturn.

The tractor trailer was loaded with milk. At this time no leak has been spotted.

Feed Mill Road is closed from Penny Tew Mill Rd to US 421 as the investigation is conducted.

At 10:28pm, Buies Creek Fire Rescue, Buies Creek Medic 8, Harnett County EMS Supervisor and NCSHP were dispatched to the intersection of NC Highway 27 and Old Stage Road for a vehicle crash.

First arriving fire officer at 10:31 advised that they had a vehicle rollover in the roundabout at the intersection.

10:43pm, Medic 8 left to transport the patient to WakeMed Raleigh as a trauma alert.

NCSHP Troopers along with Harnett County Deputy arrived to conduct the investigation.

Preliminary investigation is the Lincoln MK-Z was traveling south on Old Stage Road. The driver failed to stop for the stop sign at the roundabout that is under construction. Drove on to the roundabout before hitting an unfinished section of the concrete apron which caused the vehicle to flip into the roundabout. The vehicle was upside down in about 8-10 inches of water.

The intersection was closed for almost 2 hours.

Charges are pending.

Delayed Dunn/ Harnett County.

Crews responded to a vehicle crash in the rain between the 72 and 73 mile markers on I-95 north. They located 4 vehicles, (2) tractor trailers and (2) passenger vehicles on the inside lane with damage.

Crash 1 involved a semi and a passenger car where the semi hit the rear of the passenger car that had hydroplaned i the roadway.

Crash 2 involved a pickup that slammed into the back of a different semi truck which is a fuel tanker from APC Tank lines.

The fuel tanker slowed to avoid the first crash when the driver of the pickup failed to slow/stop before impact.

The pickup driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

One lane of I-95 North is closed and southbound lanes are slowed due to on looker delays.

NCSHP is handling the investigation.

Harnett County Deputies were called to a home on Kentucky Derby Lane Lillington (Barbeque Community), for a possible shooting.

Units arrived to the home less than 5 minutes from dispatch.

Once at the home they began clearing the home and located 3 victims that had been shot along with a juvenile that was uninjured.

The suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

Sadly, 2 of the 3 that were shot have succumbed to their injuries.

Harnett County Sheriff's Office is currently conducting this investigation and as updates are released the information will be update.

Update 1: On 8-12-25 at 5:18 pm, the Harnett County 911 Center received a 911 call in reference to a possible assault at 19 Kentucky Derby Ln. Lillington, NC. Deputies arrived at the residence and located three victims inside the residence. Two victims are deceased and one victim was transported to a local hospital by emergency personnel. Investigators are actively working this investigation. The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office will provide more information as it becomes available.

August 13, 2025

The initial investigation has revealed the following information. These findings are based on what we have learned to this point and may change as the investigation progresses.

On 8-12-2025 at 5:18 pm, Harnett County 911 Center received a call from a 10 years old resident of 19 Kentucky Derby, Lillington. They stated that several of their family members had been shot. Deputies, Anderson Creek Emergency Services, Benhaven Emergency Services and Harnett EMS responded to the location. Deputies’ located two victims deceased, Danny Richards, age 57 and Sabrina Richards, age 54, and one victim conscious with injuries, Clara Richards, age 74. The 10 year old, who made the 911 call, was unharmed. Clara Richards was transported to Womack Army Hospital where she died from her injuries.

A 15 year old nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Richards was identified as a possible suspect but had left the scene on a vehicle. The vehicle was located in a wooded area near Hwy 87 and Nursery Road, Spring Lake in Harnett County. At approximately 11:00 P.M, the 15 year old was located in the wooded area and taken into custody.

The juvenile was charged on Juvenile Petitions with the following:

Two counts of First Degree Murder

One count of Attempted Murder

One count of Assault with Deadly Weapon with intent to Kill inflicting Serious Injury

(The last two charges were obtained before Clara Richards had passed, these charges will be upgraded to First Degree Murder)

The Juvenile is being held in a North Carolina Juvenile Detention Center.

(Delayed) Dunn friends and followers Dunn Police and Dunn Emergency Services were dispatched to the 1200 block of E. Cumberland Street at 7:06pm for a medical call.

Units arrived on scene and located a person deceased in the field aprroximately 200 yards behind the Food Lion shopping center.

Dunn Police are conducting the death investigation and a representative from the NC Medical Examiner's office has been requested to assist in the investigation into the cause of death.

Benson and I-95 friends and followers be advised that this morning's commute will have delays as you venture out and try to head south from Benson on I-95.

Just before 2am, Benson Fire, Four Oaks Fire and NCSHP were dispatched to Interstate 95 southbound 79-mile marker for a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle.

Units arrived on scene and located the victim. The victim was pronounced deceased immediately.

Current Reopening time is not expected until 9:30am.

NCSHP is conducting the investigation into the possible Pedestrian vs vehicle. One semi-truck and trailer was pulled off to the right shoulder and Troopers were seen with the driver of the semi conducting part of the investigation.

All southbound traffic is being diverted off at the Exit to Benson (Exit 79) over to US 301 South making the left on US 301. Then about 3 miles down turning left onto Hodges Chapel Road to reenter Interstate 95.

Benson Friends and Followers be advised that N. Wall Street is closed to traffic from Main Street to Martin St due to a sinkhole that developed. The hole at 4:30am is approximately 4-5 feet across and 2-3 feet deep. Also it appears that the roadbed is compromised with a washout area running under the asphalt across the northbound lane from the center turn lane.

Unknown at this time a reopening timeframe.

At 9:36pm, Buies Creek Fire Rescue was dispatched to a vehicle crash on the 2900 block of Brick Mill Rd (Lillington)

At 9:43pm, Harnett County EMS Supervisor arrived on scene to find a single vehicle overturned onto its roof with the front end down in a ditch.

The two occupants were out of the vehicle.

Buies Creek Fire Engine arrived on scene and began conducting traffic control and assisting the EMS Supervisor. Followed by Buies Creek's Rescue.

Both the male driver and the female passenger escaped the crash with minor injuries.

Neither the driver nor the passenger required transport to the hospital.

Coats Police, Harnett County Deputy and NCSHP responded.

Brick Mill Road was closed from NC Highway 27 to Harvell Rd during the response, investigation and clean up.

The NCSHP Trooper conducted a field sobriety test on the male driver. In which the driver failed and was arrested.

Preliminary investigation is the vehicle was traveling west on Brick Mill Road from Coats towards Buies Creek when the driver lost control, ran off the roadway and overturned.
