Community radio plays a major role in the discovery of music of all genres. Community radio fills a void on the airwaves, providing a platform for local artists, lesser known artists and superstars to be heard side by side. This approach to broadcasting helps sustain local creative communities while helping artists develop their careers and listeners widen their pallet. Community radio also provides unmediated airtime, where individuals and representatives from communities have an opportunity to speak for themselves in the form of weekly programs and live interviews dedicated to the issues and interests of particular communities. Community radio emphasizes direct communication. It takes support. I will be on my community radio station KDUR as a guest DJ on Friday October 4th at 1pm giving support and asking for support. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
