On December 11, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of Ana Lizbeth Lopez-De Reyes, an illegal alien with 14 criminal convictions, including cruelty toward a child, burglary, hit-and-run, and fraud. Lopez-De Reyes was arrested in San Francisco, California, a sanctuary state, where policies limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
"Sanctuaries like California RELEASE criminal illegal aliens back onto the streets to victimize more innocent Americans," said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, urging sanctuary leaders to hand over criminals to ICE.
Lopez-De Reyes was one of several high-priority criminal illegal aliens detained during ICE's operation, which targeted individuals with violent criminal histories, including molestation, assault, and firearm offenses. Other arrests included Darwin Antonio Chicas-Amaya, convicted of molestation of a minor in Indiana, and Aleksandr Baiturin, convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in California.
ICE continues to focus on individuals with serious criminal convictions, with 70% of arrests involving those charged or convicted of crimes in the U.S. The agency's actions have sparked calls for stronger cooperation between local governments and federal authorities.
