Sycamore Brewing, one of North Carolina’s largest breweries with a well-known Charlotte taproom, is facing rapid backlash following the arrest of co-owner Justin Brigham, 44.
Brigham was charged Thursday in Stanfield, NC, after authorities allege he broke into a home and r**ed a 13-year-old girl.
Investigators say he met the victim through social media and was discovered by her parents in the girl’s bedroom. After a 911 call, the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office located Brigham naked in a car near the residence.
He faces charges including statutory r**e of a child, first-degree burglary, and indecent liberties with a child, and is being held on a $10 million bond.
In response, several major retailers and bars across North Carolina have begun pulling Sycamore Brewing products, including Lowe’s Foods, Publix, The Fresh Market, Wegmans, Food Lion, and Common Market.
As of this morning, Sycamore beers remain available at Target, Walmart, Harris Teeter, and Total Wine; none have responded to our requests for comment.
Brigham’s wife and Sycamore Brewing co-owner, Sarah Taylor, issued this statement.
[UPDATE] Harris Teeter just informed us they have pulled all Sycamore products off their shelves and online.
