Friends, I’m taking a big swing - and I could use your help.
As many of you know, I’ve been building Southpoint Access, a digital-first neighborhood news source for South Durham. I started it because I believe something simple but important:
Communities are stronger when people understand what’s happening close to home.
In a time when most news is national, polarized, and algorithm-driven, I want to build something different - something local, human, and rooted in this place we call home.
I’m working toward a future where Southpoint Access can grow into a diverse, modern local newsroom - one that gives opportunities to writers, photographers, and video storytellers right here in our community, and helps elevate local voices and local businesses.
But here’s the honest part:
I can’t build that future on $5 subscriptions alone. Not in today’s media landscape.
To get to the next level - to expand coverage, pay freelancers fairly, and truly serve this community - I need help from people who believe in the value of local storytelling, civic literacy, and good information.
So today, I’m asking for support and amplification:
✅ If you believe local news matters, consider becoming a subscriber or donor
✅ If you know someone who cares about community information, please share this post
✅ If you have ideas or connections - foundations, sponsors, philanthropists - message me
Every contribution helps me take the next step. Every share helps reach someone who might care. Every nudge moves this dream forward.
I’m building this one neighbor at a time - and I believe in it with everything I have. South Durham deserves a strong, independent, community-rooted source of truth and connection. I’m making it happen, and I’d love your support along the way.
Thank you - sincerely - for believing in me and in local journalism.
