With profound sorrow, we share the passing of one of gospel music’s most treasured voices, Ms. Sara Jordan Powell. She transitioned peacefully yesterday morning.
Ms. Powell was a pioneering artist, a vessel of grace, and a pillar of excellence within the gospel music community. Her ministry reached global audiences, and her voice carried an anointing that could only come from God. Over the course of her remarkable career, she recorded multiple albums—including a historic gospel project with the legendary Ray Charles—further cementing her influence across musical genres and generations.
She ministered before U.S. Presidents, inspired countless choirs and musicians, and touched the hearts of believers around the world. Her legacy of faith, musicianship, and service will continue to shape gospel music for years to come.
I, Lora Parrott, had the honor of serving as her guardian, and on behalf of our family, we ask the gospel community to keep us lifted in prayer during this time of loss.
