Yesterday, I met with a youth leader at a local church. She shared with me that she was having issues engaging the youth.

She explained everything she was doing. I agreed with her and confirmed that she was taking the right steps.

As a youth ministry consultant, I was puzzled as to why she was having engagement issues.

I asked her to pause and start from the beginning to outline the first thing she did; then I realized she had overlooked the first and most important step.

Interest.

I began to explain that she needed to return to the first step because that's the foundation for direction.

One missing piece can determine the direction of the ministry's success.

Simply put, she needed to pivot.

Sometimes, you can be taking all the right steps but in the wrong direction.
