THURSDAY Feb 27! Legendary percussionist returns to Shadowbox for another mind-expanding performance!

Legendary Wisconsin-based percussionist and drummer Jon Mueller’s performances are an awe-inspiring display of elegant athleticism, preternatural focus, brute restraint, and ecstatic, monastic reverie.

For this performance, Mueller’s intense musicianship is paired with New York-based photographer and antiquarian book specialist Tom Lecky‘s projected images.

“All Colors Present” becomes an aural and visual meditation with a deliberate focus on form, shape and detail. It requires and demands a state of inner quietude from witnesses. Yet, from this seemingly metronomic exercise blossoms every possible tint and hue of infinite spectral sound.

$10 admission (cash/Venmo) at the door. Doors 7:30 pm, show at 8 pm. BYO or sample what’s on hand.

Our Art House Cinema Pop-Up started with a bang last night with a sold out screening!

Tonight, Wednesday Oct 30, we’re excited to present a slate of films made here in the Tarheel State.

“Our Movement Starts Here” is a feature length documentary by and Melanie Ho that chronicles the story of a rural, majority Black, community in Warren County, NC that made history in 1982 by fighting the state’s toxic landfill—and consequently sparked the environmental justice movement. Special guests from the film will be on hand for a conversation afterwards!

“The Black Baptism” by Stephanie Diane Ford is a short afro-futurist fantasy thriller about a young woman who awakens imprisoned by a mysterious group, and must pass a series of tests to have any hope for survival.

“Playing House” by Jennifer Scully-Thurston is a short dance film/cautionary tale that takes the audience into a little girl’s fantasy of womanhood. The filmmaker will be on hand for discussion afterwards.

On Halloween night, get your scare on with “Nosferatu with Radiohead”!

You didn’t know that Harry Dean Stanton, Crispin Glover, and William S. Burroughs are in “Twister”?

’s project for 2024, The Harry Dean Stanton Appreciation Society, barnstorms into July with the off kilter comedy “Twister” (1989), the feature-length debut from director Michael Almereyda (whose filmography with Ethan Hawke includes Hamlet, Cymbeline, and Tesla).

Based on the novel Oh! by Mary Robison, this Kansan yarn tells of the Cleveland family, an eccentric bunch whose relationships and idiosyncrasies play out while a tornado bears down.

Harry Dean plays Eugene Cleveland, the head of the family and a retired soda-pop and mini-golf tycoon.

Also caught up in the whirlwind are Suzy Amis, Crispin Glover, Charlayne Woodard, Dylan McDermott, Tim Robbins, and yes, why not, William S. Burroughs!

FREE, donations appreciated. Doors and hot dog grilling at 7:00, movie rolls at 8:00. BYO or sample what’s on-hand!
