What a day! Bus full of Lk. Stevens HS jazz band musicians came out to lay down three tunes for the national Essentially Ellington competition. Different students on the various pieces, so some got to hang out in the mezzanine. Tomorrow they come back to see if they can improve upon what they did today.

Music-filled weekend! Mooch knocked out "Revenge" and Saroja kicked off her project with guitar and ref vocals for the first song. (No photo of Spencer Trujillo recording some drums and guitar for a song I'm co-producing).

Okay, I admit it: I'm a gear nut. Lately I've had the opportunity to learn audio equipment some for clients, and it's been pretty cool. I used an Allen & Heath CQ-18T for a concert at the Locks. Helped another with their Roland TD 27 and Behringer XAIR XR18. Most recently I had the opportunity to dive into the workings of the Akai MPC One +. It's a unique experience and provides an enjoyable challenge. (Thank you for reading this far!)

Did live sound for Moondance (shown here with a fan) at the Ballard Locks.
Great band, beautiful venue and perfect weather.
The only real challenge (other than getting through the security gates) was doing it all with an Allen and Heath CQ from my laptop.
Every company comes up with it's own approach to channel configuration and routing, so that kept me busy.
But it was nice to be able to work from the sweet spot in the middle of the audience.

He was just tagging along with the student who was supposed to intern last year, but ended up being a perfect match.

It's great working with talented, creative artists. Jack Brand and Rebecca Guthrie of Polydendron laid down the final tracks for two more songs last night. We got some good stuff. Now, we get to dive into mixing. Glad to have Ryan McClune of Tolt Records on hand to help out!
