SAN ANTONIO, Texas — While the November General Election remains months away, three Maverick County Democratic nominees are already working together to prepare for the future of the community they hope to serve.
Democratic nominee for Maverick County Judge Jerry Morales, Democratic nominee for Precinct 1 Commissioner Mario Cruz, and Democratic nominee for Precinct 4 Commissioner Dr. Alejandro Esquivel attended the South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association Annual Conference in San Antonio on Tuesday, June 16, joining county leaders and industry professionals from across Texas.
The conference brought together judges, commissioners, engineers, architects, consultants, and economic development professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing counties throughout the state.
For the Maverick County nominees, the event served as an opportunity to learn, network, and gain insight into issues that directly impact local residents, including infrastructure improvements, economic development, and long-term community planning.
“We met with county leaders, engineers, architects, consultants, and other professionals who are helping communities across Texas prepare for future growth and development,” Morales said.
The conference highlighted the importance of collaboration between elected officials and the professionals responsible for designing, funding, and implementing projects that shape communities.
Attending together also reflected a shared commitment among the nominees to begin building relationships and exploring solutions before potentially taking office.
As Maverick County continues to face infrastructure demands and opportunities for economic growth, local leaders say preparation and planning are essential to ensuring the community remains competitive and ready for the future.
“These conferences are important because they provide valuable insight into infrastructure, economic development, and innovative solutions that can benefit Maverick County,” Morales said.
Beyond the presentations and workshops, the conference provided opportunities to connect with professionals whose expertise could prove valuable as Maverick County pursues future projects and investments.
The presence of Morales, Cruz, and Esquivel at the conference underscored a common theme: leadership begins long before Election Day.
Whether discussing roads, economic development, public services, or future growth, the three nominees spent the week learning from leaders across Texas and gathering ideas they believe can help strengthen Maverick County.
For Morales, the mission remains simple.
“Every decision, every partnership, and every opportunity should be focused on one thing: putting Maverick County first,” he said.
As the November election approaches, the conference offered a glimpse of what cooperation and forward-thinking leadership could look like—one focused not on campaign season, but on preparing for the future of Maverick County.
