Traffic Collision on Highway 90 Leads to Drug Arrest

DEL RIO, TX — What began as a routine response to a two-vehicle crash quickly turned into a narcotics arrest Wednesday evening after Del Rio police discovered drugs inside one of the vehicles involved.

On September 3, 2025, at about 8:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 90 East and Dallas Drive following reports of a collision. During the course of the investigation, police made contact with one of the drivers, identified as 27-year-old Italia Hernandez.

According to authorities, officers immediately detected a strong odor of ma*****na coming from Hernandez’s vehicle. A search of the car uncovered several items, including:
• A smoking pipe containing burned ma*****na residue
• A jar of THC wax
• A THC v**e pen, which later tested positive for THC
• A clear bag containing Xanax pills

Hernandez was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 ≥1G

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS — The Eagle Pass Police Department is preparing to launch a tough new crackdown on reckless drivers, promising zero tolerance for street racing, aggressive driving, and other dangerous behaviors on local roads and highways.

According to Chief Amy González, drivers caught speeding excessively, racing on public streets, or engaging in reckless or distracted driving will now face harsher criminal penalties — even in cases where no injuries occur.

This initiative comes alongside Senate Bill 2899, recently passed during the Texas Legislature, which gives law enforcement agencies the authority to seize vehicles involved in street races or reckless driving exhibitions.

“These new laws provide stronger tools to hold offenders accountable and protect the safety of everyone traveling on our roads,” González stated.

The Eagle Pass Police Department emphasized that the campaign is not only about enforcement but about prevention, aiming to discourage reckless conduct before it results in tragedy.

DPS to File Charges Against Man Accused of Threatening EPISD School

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS — Authorities confirmed that the individual accused of sending a threatening message about a possible shooting at Pete Gallego Elementary School in Eagle Pass is in custody and facing charges in Texas.

According to School Police Chief Crestino Ynocencio, the threat was first reported when a young student received a message through social media on Thursday night. The student immediately informed her parents, who then alerted school officials.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Eagle Pass school police, worked together to trace the origin of the message to a residence in Houston, Texas. The suspect was located and detained by DPS officers.

Chief Ynocencio emphasized that while the case is still under investigation, the seriousness of the incident warranted swift action. “From the very beginning, we treated this threat with the urgency it deserved,” he said. “Our priority is always the safety of our students and staff.”

Although no local threats have been reported beyond this case, authorities reassured the community that vigilance remains high. Additional security measures were taken at Pete Gallego Elementary, including increased patrols and police presence, to ensure students’ safety.

Search Warrant Leads to Four Arrests, Drugs Seized, and Two Stolen Mobile Homes Recovered

MAVERICK COUNTY, TEXAS — A coordinated law enforcement operation led by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), with assistance from the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, resulted in the arrest of four individuals, the seizure of narcotics, and the recovery of two stolen mobile homes.

Authorities confirmed the search took place Wednesday afternoon at a property in the Deer Run area. The intervention was carried out under a state-issued search warrant following an ongoing investigation into suspected drug activity.

According to officials with the Sheriff’s Special Unit investigating auto theft, one of the recovered mobile homes had been reported stolen in Del Rio, while the other had been reported stolen within Maverick County.

The four suspects were detained at the scene by DPS agents, who remain in charge of the investigation. Charges will be filed once the case is presented to the District Attorney’s Office.

At this time, the identities of the individuals have not been released, and no official details have been provided regarding the type or quantity of narcotics seized.

CONDADO DE MAVERICK, TEXAS — Un operativo policial coordinado, liderado por el Departamento de Seguridad Pública de Texas (DPS), con la asistencia de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Maverick, resultó en el arresto de cuatro personas, la incautación de narcóticos y la recuperación de dos casas móviles robadas.

Las autoridades confirmaron que el registro se llevó a cabo el miércoles por la tarde en una propiedad en el área de Deer Run. La intervención se llevó a cabo en virtud de una orden de registro emitida por el estado, tras una investigación en curso sobre presunta actividad relacionada con dr**as.

Maverick County, despite being the largest county on the Texas border by population without a court at law, will finally gain one. This court will help relieve the heavy caseload burden on the 293rd and 365th Judicial District Courts, which will continue to share jurisdiction over cases across Dimmit, Maverick, and Zavala counties.

“This bill transforms the structure of our local courts and finally gives Maverick County the judicial representation it deserves,” Morales said. “By establishing a County Court at Law and a District Attorney’s Office exclusive to Maverick, we are strengthening public safety, improving efficiency, and bringing overdue resources to our community.”

Future Elections & Regional Benefits

The new framework paves the way for Maverick County residents to elect their own District Attorney beginning in 2028. Meanwhile, Dimmit and Zavala Counties will also gain an exclusive DA, enhancing their ability to pursue funding opportunities such as border prosecution grants.

SLOGAN FAIL: Woman Wearing ‘Whiskey Helps’ Shirt Arrested After Drunken Crash Into Home, Police Say

DEL RIO, TEXAS — A late-night crash ended with a DWI arrest after police say a driver slammed her vehicle into a residence in the 700 block of East Bowie Street.

The incident occurred around 1:18 a.m. on August 30, 2025, when Del Rio Police officers responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with a home.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Gabriela Elizabeth Ortiz, was found at the scene. Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and person. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered, during which Ortiz reportedly displayed several signs of intoxication.

DRPD says, a subsequent breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) greater than 0.15, more than double the legal limit. Due to the high level, her charge was enhanced to Driving While Intoxicated with BAC ≥ 0.15.

Ortiz was placed under arrest and transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing before being released into the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.

Images released show Ortiz wearing a shirt reading “Whiskey Helps” at the time of her booking.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The home sustained structural damage, though police confirmed the residents were not harmed.

The case underscores the dangers of impaired driving and the risks it poses not only to motorists but also to families inside their homes.

DEL RIO, TEXAS — Un accidente nocturno terminó con un arresto por conducir bajo los efectos del alcohol (DWI) después de que, según la policía, una conductora impactara su vehículo contra una vivienda en la cuadra 700 de East Bowie Street.

El incidente ocurrió alrededor de la 1:18 a. m. del 30 de agosto de 2025, cuando agentes de la Policía de Del Rio respondieron a reportes de un vehículo que chocó contra una vivienda.

La conductora, identificada como Gabriela Elizabeth Ortiz, de 26 años, fue encontrada en el lugar. Los agentes notaron un fuerte olor a alcohol en su aliento y en su cuerpo.
