: EPPD Saves Christmas, Arrests ‘Notorious’ Grinch

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS — Christmas is officially back on the calendar. In a dramatic twist, the Eagle Pass Police Department apprehended the notorious “Grinch” this morning after the green fugitive allegedly attempted to steal holiday cheer, cookies, and possibly a few tamales.

According to officers on scene, the suspect was spotted sneaking around town with a suspiciously large gift sack and an attitude described as “extra grinchy.” Witnesses reported seeing him lurking near Christmas decorations and muttering something about “bah humbug” and “too much joy.”

Thankfully, EPPD officers intervened swiftly, tackling the troublemaker before he could reach the tree at Shelby Park.

“We take holiday threats very seriously,” one officer said. “No one, not even a cartoon villain, gets between Eagle Pass and Christmas spirit.”

After a brief chase — during which the Grinch was overheard shouting, “You’ll never catch me, you jolly do-gooders!” — he was taken into custody. The arrest reportedly left Whoville residents cheering and children across Eagle Pass breathing a sigh of relief.

Santa issued no official comment, though sources close to the North Pole say he is “deeply pleased and slightly amused.”

The suspect is expected to face charges ranging from attempted cheer theft to conspiracy to cancel Christmas.

This lighthearted story is being shared as an honest joke to put a smile on the faces of local residents and their children.

For now, the holidays are safe. 🎄 Merry Christmas, Eagle Pass! 🎄

🎄 ¡Feliz Navidad, Eagle Pass! 🎄

A Child Shouldn’t Be Here! 💔🙏

A Small Kid Left Alone at the River — Saved in the Arms of an Agent

A young child was found alone near the riverbank and pulled to safety by a Border Patrol agent, according to officials. The image above captures the moment: a child held tightly in the arms of an officer, miles away from home, from safety, and from anyone who might protect him.

Border Patrol Laredo Sector reported that the child had been abandoned by smugglers, left behind the second they saw law enforcement.
The agents’ message was direct and chilling:

“Do not trust smugglers with your children. They will abandon your child at the first sight of law enforcement.”

An Innocent Life Caught in a Dangerous Journey

In the photograph, the child’s small hands clutch at the officer’s vest.
There is no mother.
No father.
Just a river behind them and a stranger holding him to safety.

While adults flee, children are left to face the river, the darkness, and the uncertainty. For the men and women in uniform, these rescues are not rare — they are part of the daily reality along the border.

A Crisis That Breaks Hearts

Children are being used as currency.
They are carried through water, brush, and darkness. Then abandoned when danger appears.

Officials say some children are too young to even know their names.

This time, help arrived.
This time, someone saw the child before the river took him.

Humanity at Work

The image shows what the job really is:
rescue, not rhetoric.
saving lives, not making headlines.

Every day, agents hope they reach the child before the water, before the cold, before the night.

A Safe Ending — But a Lasting Memory

The child is now safe and receiving care.
But for many who saw the image, it lingers:

💔 the tiny hands
💔 the empty riverbank
💔 the silent question: what if no one had been there?

Border Patrol’s final plea was clear:

Do not trust smugglers with your children.
They will abandon them. Every time.

rescatar, no retórica.

Siempre.

Simply Beautiful — Giving Back to the Community!

✨ Eagle Pass came together in the spirit of giving this weekend as Hesles Investments, Thin Blue Line LEMC, and a dedicated team of local sponsors hosted the 12th Annual Toy & Bike Giveaway. Families lined up early along Main Street, excited for a day filled with holiday cheer, live music, food trucks, and the promise of a toy for every child who attended.

Reporter Karla Treviño was on-site covering the event and spoke with Ricky Hesles, owner and manager of Hesles Sporting Goods, who shared how this tradition began more than a decade ago. What started with their mother bringing Santa and handing out candy has grown into a massive community celebration that now provides toys, bikes, and smiles to hundreds of local children.

This year’s event featured live performances from local bands, multiple vendors, festive holiday activities, and the excitement of bike raffles—where many lucky kids walked away with brand-new bikes. The long lines, laughter, and joyful reactions from children reflected the true meaning of the season.

Events like this are made possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors, volunteers, law enforcement groups like Thin Blue Line LEMC and Blue Knights of Texas 37, community leaders, and local businesses who continue to support Eagle Pass families. Their dedication ensures that no child walks away empty-handed and that the holiday spirit shines brighter every year.

With toys in their hands, bikes being rolled out of the store, and families celebrating together, today’s giveaway wasn’t just an event—it was a reminder of what our community can accomplish when everyone comes together.

EPISD Bids Farewell to Icon Lana Harper After 56 Years of Shaping Local Education

EAGLE PASS, Texas — The Eagle Pass Independent School District celebrated one of its most influential figures last week, honoring Lana Harper with a special recognition ceremony and luncheon to mark her retirement after an extraordinary 52 years of service with EPISD — and 56 years in education overall.

Harper’s name is synonymous with dedication. Known for staying late, working weekends, and never slowing down, she spent a lifetime building programs, mentoring staff, and supporting students across the district.

Before joining EPISD, she worked four years in another district, completing a remarkable six-decade journey in public education.

“We are proud of her work, proud of her career — practically a lifetime devoted to education,” said Superintendent Samuel Mijares, who praised her legacy of leadership and commitment.

Over the years, Harper served as a classroom teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and federal programs director. In every role she was known for her efficiency, work ethic, and hands-on approach. Many colleagues say her strong standards and caring personality set a tone that elevated the district for generations.

Friday’s celebration brought together school board members, administrators, teachers, and friends who shared stories and expressed deep gratitude for her guidance, mentorship, and impact.

Lana Harper is also the mother of well-known local attorney Jad P. Harper, a respected figure in the community, adding another point of pride to her family’s legacy in Eagle Pass.

Her retirement marks the close of an era — but her influence will continue to be seen in the classrooms, programs, and students she touched throughout her long career.
