It's official, New York's largest amateur radio swap meet has been canceled. The Amateur Radio Association of the Southern Tier has canceled their 2020 Elmira Hamfest scheduled for September 26th at the Chemung County Fairgrounds. The 2021 ARAST Elmira Hamfest will be held on Saturday, September 25th, 2021.

Murgas Amateur Radio Club

It is with a very heavy heart that I send this message, Walt Jones - WN3LIF passed away Monday. I really don't need to tell you much about WT as he has touched all our lives in one way or another, either as an Elmer for new hams, Digital modes guru, Emergency communicator, or just plain good old friend. Walt has held every position in the Murgas ARC, President down to BOD and served on numerous committees over the years. Whenever he was needed Walt was always the go to guy to get things done. His long standing affiliation with ARES took him from the position as Luzerne County Emergency Coordinator to serve the entire Section. His attention to detail, order and knowledge has taken emergency communications in the Eastern PA Section to new levels, implementing digital modes for ARES, working with the ARES Connect system to make it much more user friendly.

Above all his accomplishments with Amateur Radio, (and I didn't mention his expertise as a competition marksman and his computer programming skills), Walt was just a good friend to everyone. Always a great chat - in person, over the air, or electronically, Walt was someone you would look forward to run into.

His passing is a great loss to the Murgas Amateur Radio Club, Luzerne County ARES, the EPA Section, Luzerne County EMA, to his friends in competitive shooting, and to those of were lucky to call him a friend.. Our deepest sympathies to his wife Jan and the rest of his family. Thanks for sharing Walt withn us.

73 Walt, Rest in Peace. You will truly be missed.

Walter T. Jones, 69, of Duryea, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 22, 2020, in Regional Hospital of Scranton.
Services will be privately held and at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Elmhurst.
