South Dakota Game, Fish, Parks Commission announced the limit of 50,000 tails for the Nest Predator Bounty Program has been reached.

On January 12, 2023, the GFP Commission past resolution to conduct the Nest Predator Bounty Program through 2026.

The program begins on March 1 for youth, under age of 18. It opens to all South Dakota residence from April 1 to July 1, or until the max pay out of 500,000 is reached. The maximum payout per household is $590.

Species for the bounty: Raccoons, Opossums, Skunks, Badgers and Red Fox

Participants receive $10 per tail for the listed species and can submit up to $590 worth of tails per household.

Goals for the program are to enhance duck, pheasant, and turkey success; encourage participation, awareness, and education; ensure hunting and trapping heritage remains strong; and to get the next generation involved in the outdoors.
