The Summer issue of the N-News Magazine is getting delivered. We have heard confirmation from readers in California, Maine, Iowa, New Hampshire, Washington, Ohio and a whole handful of other states....but I KNOW it is still in the mail in a lot of places. Hang tight.....it is coming.

The Summer issue has a GREAT story about finding an aluminum hood 9N. The earliest 9Ns (maybe 500-900, we don't really know) had aluminum parts. The story goes that after the famous handshake agreement between Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson, the goal was to get the 9N rolling off the line in early 1939. They simply didn't have enough time to make all the body parts in house....so the head of production (remember, no actual titles at FoMoCo back then!) "Cast-Iron" Charlie Sorenson farmed out the hood, front dog legs, dash, grill and a few other parts to be stamped or cast in aluminum to keep the tractor production on schedule.

Aluminum was easier/faster to get into production, but ultimately didn't hold up to normal tractor abuse. Many of those parts didn't survive and were replaced.

When N-News subscriber Jim Reinhart found an aluminum hood 9N, he didn't hesitate. His article goes into some of his discovers while he ironed out a few bugs.
