This morning (Cambodia time), the Thai military unilaterally broke peace efforts by launching an attack on Cambodian territory in Oudor Meanchey Province. Despite this aggressive act, Thailand is now spreading false information on social media, falsely accusing Cambodia of having opened fire first.
This claim is clearly illogical and misleading. If Cambodia had intended to initiate conflict, why would it have been the party to formally request that the matter be settled through the International Court of Justice (ICJ)—a respected and neutral legal body dedicated to peaceful conflict resolution? In contrast, Thailand rejected Cambodia’s call for ICJ involvement, stating that it no longer trusts the institution. If one country is calling for international law and peaceful dialogue, and the other is rejecting that path, who is more likely to seek conflict?
Moreover, evidence suggests that the Thai government had premeditated military action. A day before the attack, they announced the closure of the temple area where the conflict began. Even more tellingly, the Prime Minister of Thailand ordered all Thai nationals working at the Thai Embassy in Cambodia to return to Thailand prior to the incident. These coordinated actions raise serious questions and strongly suggest deliberate planning by the Thai side. Therefore, the narrative that Cambodia started the conflict is not only baseless but contradicts the facts. Cambodia remains committed to peace, diplomacy, and international law, while resisting any form of foreign aggression. Pray forr Cambodia 🇰🇭
