What a crazy first 9 weeks of school. I have spoken with a lot of cadets at EHHS and they are doing their best through all of this COVID and not having JROTC. We are still encouraging the school district to allow former cadets to enroll in JROTC at NHHS even if they have to do so virtually. Right now nothing is normal except constant change. Be safe.

I downloaded a ton of pics onto Shutterfly from 2004 to 2016. PM me if you want the login and password.

The US flag and the unit flag will be flying at the school today. Tonight, at 2030 the flags will be illuminated by a spotlight for 27 minutes in honor of our seniors and in honor of the corps in general for the 27 years it has been in existence. Col Stanley (the first SASI), Col Cowan, Col Wilkerson and myself will be there and will lower the flags at 2057. This will symbolically end the year for our senior cadets and the deactivation of AFJROTC Unit NC-934.

I need to take pics of the model airplanes hanging from the ceiling if anyone is interested in having one of them...especially if you or someone you know built one of them.

I have inventoried all of the trophies that are in the classroom. Contact me if you participated in any of the events listed and want the trophy. There are way too many for me to be shipping these out but they will be available until late May or early June. If you want one and you know someone it the area that can pick it up and ship it to you that is fine too. List will be posted ASAP.

Just letting everyone know the obvious...nothing has changed as far as being able to go back to school. I am hopeful that we can get a week or two in, and wondering how we could possibly do graduation with the massive crowd that fills our little stadium. As April ends and we get into May I will start asking our administrators about the possibility of a JROTC reunion at the end of the school year.

We may really need help to push to get HCPS to agree to transporting EHHS students to NHHS to participate in JROTC there. The first word is that money to transport from school to school is local money, not money from the State of NC, which makes it less likely. If I don't get a better, more positive answers than that I may need our friends to let their voices be heard. It cannot come from me. I have already had my say. Parents and alumni will need to be proactive. I think I have a couple of parents of current cadets that might be willing to start a task force to keep JROTC available to the cadets at EHHS.

Of course you know that students are at home and we are providing instruction on-line. Unfortunately everything JROTC specific is cancelled for the year. No military ball. No annual awards. No Memorial Day color guards. No Bataan Death March memorial hikes. No CIA trip to Charleston. What a miserable way for the unit to go out. We are going to have to do something when this is all over.

In the next few weeks I will post pics of trophies by year group. If you come to the planned (in progress) reunion you can come take what you earned home before it all goes in a dumpster. We will have unit unique PT gear available for sale as well that we will not be able to use if/when the cadets become part of North Henderson HS AFJROTC. The money will be used to enhance the fundraiser account there so our cadets and theirs can plan outings at the start of the year before the AF gives us money.

I am sorry I haven't posted much on this page since I created it. I was given sad news immediately after and I couldn't tell anyone until today.

Our HQ has notified us that our unit is being deactivated after this year. We just told our cadets this morning. I do not exagerate when I tell you that there were cadets openly and uncontrollably weeping.

Our cadets are thinking of hosting alumni back to the classroom at the end of the year for dogs and burgers or pizza and invite Col Stanley, Clark, and Wilkerson, plus any of the ASIs I can find. RIght not it is just an idea, but if there is interest I will put a cadet in charge of it to work with an alumnus to get it planned.

Sorry for the bad news, but we are Eagles and we will fly high to the end!
