A one marker restoration day. I’ve been looking for Patriot Butler’s marker and with some help of others I was told where to look and he was found! Russell and I took time today to bring a new look back so we may all remember Thomas Butler Sr and his service during the Revolutionary War.

Today’s beautiful weather took me to Brumbaugh and Fairview Cemeteries. Did some cleaning for folks who asked about taking care of some family headstones and markers.

When you take a moment and soak in the views and think of the history that took place in those areas over the many years it just takes your breath away!

Today’s adventure was with some ladies of the Adam Holliday Chapter of the NSDAR. The plaque honoring Patriot Adam Holliday will be rededicated on October 2, 2024 at noon as part of the kickoff to celebrate America 250! America will be 250 years old on 7/4/26. We worked to restore and bring beauty back to the plaque. Lots of sanding, some washing and waxing. Much improved!

Very lucky to have my husband who is willing to help me on projects. Allen Edwards has been working tirelessly to restore the remnants of Dilling Cemetery. We told him we would take care of cleaning the headstones. Today we were finally able to do so. We loaded up the golf cart and down into the cornfield we went! They look better and will improve over time. Dirt will continue to come off during rain storms. The black mold will be attacked by the D2 over the coming months. In time they will be whiter and cleaner. We will go back in the spring and clean them again. Here’s to restoring honor to these individuals who were laid to rest here.

There is some great history as well in the cemetery. Casper Dilling is buried here and he is the son of Johann Casper Dilling who was the hessian soldier turned Revolutionary Patriot! If you have Dilling ancestry you are related to these folks.

Sadly over time the headstones have broken and been lost due to farming and time.

A friend from high school who has been researching the Martinsburg Indian School asked if I could restore the bronze plague at Fairview Cemetery. And today’s weather was perfect to do so.

First time I have been out to a cemetery since my surgery in June! What a beautiful day. Today I worked on my 2nd cousin once removed, Eugene M Ayers military marker. I sanded the lettering and outer edge and applied Mission Restore Wax. The wax is made by a veteran who sends you the wax for free to be used on veteran markers! A very nice and informative man. I previously used a microcrystalline wax from England but it faded quickly. Mission Restore wax does not! Highly recommend.

Due to surgery on my Achilles tendon yesterday, I will be out of commission for a few months. I hope to be able to do few headstones this fall.

For Memorial Day I cleaned my first cousin twice removed Don Ayers’ headstone. He was in the U.S. Navy. 🇺🇸

Another before and after of a headstone at Burget Cemetery. Not a drastic change but biological growth is coming off and it has lightened some. Before April 28 and after May 18.

Trimmed the cemetery again today and hope it will remain nice for Memorial Day weekend.
