"Shodair Children’s Hospital is launching a brand-new community event: Hope and Thunder Days, happening July 31 & August 1—and we’re inviting local businesses to help make it unforgettable!

On Thursday, July 31 from 4–7 PM, we’ll host a completely free Family Day of Hope on our campus. Kids and families will enjoy a basketball star meet-and-greet, ropes course, face painting, balloon twisting, chalk art challenge, basketball games, food trucks, giveaways, and more. Every child will receive a copy of our new book, The Bison and the Firefly, and meet our mascots, Hope the Firefly and Thunder the Bison!

Then, on Friday, August 1, we’ll host a one-of-a-kind basketball skills camp for kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade—also free of charge. Space is limited, so early sign-up is encouraged!

📩 We’d love for local businesses to help us show families a great day by becoming sponsors.

For questions or to sponsor, contact Kristin Chaney at [email protected] or (406) 444-1132.

Let’s make this a celebration to remember—for the kids, for the community, and for Montana."

Five individuals in Gallatin County were diagnosed with measles last week, the first known cases in Montana in 35 years. The individuals are children and adults who were exposed while traveling outside of Montana. All five individuals are either unvaccinated or their vaccine status is unknown.

Measles is a highly contagious disease - it can live in the air in a room for up to two hours after an infected person leaves. The majority of people exposed to measles who are not immune will get infected. It can take 10 to 14 days for an exposed person to develop the infection.

Fortunately, our Helena Public School nurses work hard throughout the year to ensure we have accurate information on student vaccinations as well as medical, religious and conditional exemptions. As a result, the current districtwide student vaccination rate for the Helena Public Schools is 97 percent.

Linked below are two documents that provide further information provided by Lewis and Clark Public Health including the incubation period, the time between exposure and sickness, and quarantine.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school nurse.
