Regarding Harrison's Local Election, Mayor James Fife and four of the eight council members are up for re-election, but there are no candidates running against them. It was 4 years ago that Mayor James Fife and 4th Ward Councilman James Doran covered up by lying about EPA's plan to put a Toxic Sludge Plant at PSE&G property across the street from modern apartment buildings in Harrison's Redevelopment Zone. Four years ago, then Councilman Anselmo Millan brought the public's attention to the risk posed by dioxin-laden soil being brought onto land at the PSE&G property. Mayor Fife & Councilman Doran then defamed Councilman Millan and local attorney John M. Pinho by stating that Millan and Pinho were lying. The Truth was that Fife and Doran were the ones lying to the residents of Harrison, NJ.

Candidate for Hudson County Commissioner Larry Bennett, who is currently Harrison's Third Ward Councilman, also supports the Toxic Sludge Plant.

Voters in Harrison, East Newark, Kearny, and part of Secaucus and Jersey City (the Ninth District) will soon decide who will represent them on the Hudson County Board of County Commissioners (formerly known as the Hudson County Freeholders Board) in one of the most closely watched county races in West Hudson this year. The District 9 seat is open because longtime Commissioner Albert J. Cifelli is stepping down after years of service representing the three municipalities.

With a longtime incumbent stepping aside and three candidates offering sharply different backgrounds and visions, this year’s District 9 race is shaping up to be one of the most important local elections in recent West Hudson history.

Traffic Bulletin: Saturday & Sunday
A Traffic Bulletin has been issued for Saturday and Sunday due to a two-day international rugby festival taking place at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in the Riverbend District in Harrison. The event will bring elite national teams and fans from around the world to town.
• Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 11:00 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.
Because of the rugby event and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, traffic congestion is possible throughout the weekend, particularly on Sunday when both events overlap in the downtown area.
If you plan to attend either event by car, consider parking in the Harrison Parking Garage and walking north along Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard. Along the way, stop at one of the local coffee shops for your favorite coffee, donut, bagel, or breakfast sandwich before heading to the parade staging area.
You can also grab a coffee and walk over to Sports Illustrated Stadium to enjoy the international rugby sevens competition. Rugby sevens is a fast-paced version of the sport with shorter games and nonstop action—making it exciting for both longtime fans and newcomers.

Harrison Mayor & Council Meeting – Tuesday
Don’t miss the Harrison Mayor & Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, which also happens to be St. Patrick’s Day.
Irish immigrants once faced discrimination in America, often encountering signs that read “Irish Need Not Apply.” Over time, Irish Americans organized and became active participants in their communities. One of the ways they fought discrimination was by attending town meetings, registering to vote, and participating in the democratic process.
Their civic engagement helped bring meaningful change—improving job opportunities, housing conditions, and ultimately helping many families achieve the American Dream.
If you want to help improve the Town of Harrison today, participating in the democratic process remains just as important.
The Mayor & Council meeting begins at 6:15 p.m., but you can still join if you arrive a little late due to traffic. Feel free to bring your children along and let them see democracy in action.
Most meetings are relatively short and rarely last longer than one hour.
We hope to see you there.
Have a great weekend in Harrison!
