TikTok Beauty Influencer Shot Dead on Livestream in Mexico – Fans in Shock
A horrifying tragedy unfolded live on camera as 23-year-old TikTok beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was fatally shot during a livestream from her beauty salon in Zapopan, Mexico.
Valeria had just unboxed a small parcel—playfully showing off a stuffed piglet to her followers—when moments later, she was gunned down by a male intruder. The shocking attack was broadcast live, with viewers watching in disbelief as she collapsed in her chair, blood pooling on the desk. The livestream only ended when someone picked up her phone, briefly revealing their face.
The Jalisco Attorney General’s Office has confirmed it is investigating the case as a suspected femicide, a gender-based killing that has become alarmingly common across Mexico.
Valeria, who had more than 100,000 Instagram followers and a growing presence on TikTok, is the latest victim in a country struggling with skyrocketing rates of violence against women. Just days earlier, a female mayoral candidate in Veracruz was also killed during a livestream, along with three others—sparking a national conversation about public safety and gender violence.
According to Amnesty International, one in four female homicides in Mexico in 2020 were classified as femicides, with cases reported in all 32 states. The crisis continues: government data shows 847 femicides were reported in 2024, and 162 more in just the first three months of 2025.
Rights groups say the country’s justice system is failing to deliver. “In 2022, around 4,000 women were killed in Mexico—12% of total homicides—and only about 67% of those cases led to a verdict,” said Human Rights Watch Americas Director Juanita Goebertus.
She added that the key challenge is improving law enforcement’s ability to investigate thoroughly and protect victims and witnesses.
