One year ago today, Pet Connection Magazine co-publisher Tracy lost her sweet boy, Jack. He was a hero to her, and it has taken 365 days for her to process this loss.

When we’ve lost our balance, when we’re losing hope, when we just feel lost, where do we turn to? We turn to our heroes.

We’ve all needed a hero at some point during our lives. You see, the column that she wrote about her journey with her dog was called “Balancing Jack,” and losing him made her lose her balance. He accompanied her everywhere. He was her inspiration to join Pet Connection Magazine, to write dog books, and to find balance in her life. We jokingly said that he was “three quarters Labrador” because he was missing an eye and a leg from a car accident shortly before she adopted him, but he was one hundred percent hero. For his six and three quarters years with her, he was brave and kind; his goofiness and joy inspired differently abled people, the sick, the elderly. He helped foster bottle baby kittens, rescued orphaned flying squirrels, befriended Oskar the Blind Cat & Klaus, even accompanied her on her honeymoon six weeks before he passed away.

Tracy writes: "We found each other when we were both recovering from injuries, and he helped me find my balance. He was a hero to me. I have dreaded writing this, because I knew I’d cry. But then I remember the balance that he helped me find. And the heroism that is all around us, in human and animal form. And on this day, 365 days after I lost him, I am filled with nothing but gratitude, and hope, and love."

As the co-publishers of Pet Connection Magazine, we’ve had the great honor of meeting many heroes over the past several years. We’ve watched as people stepped up to lead and love, help with hope, and connect with our local community. We have watched as leaders have emerged – leaders whose vision for a better world have inspired paradigm shifts. We have watched as animals transformed the lives of their people – and even their planet.

We are thankful to have the opportunity to shine a light on those who are making an impact on our community and we think these stories will resonate with you, too.

So we bring you the first articles of our 2022 heroes issue, featuring heroes from across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Each is doing their part to make a difference in the world. We’re humbled to be able to honor them. Please join Pet Connection Magazine as we celebrate them and thank them for all that they do.

And please enjoy these assorted photos of Jack. He was a very good boy who was very loved and is very missed, but now it's time to write again.

Our first articles of 2022 are here -- and our winter issue has the theme of "Puppy Love."

Puppy love isn't just about puppies, though. It's about that first love, whether it’s between people, person and pet, or between animal best friends. It's about those hopeful beginnings, fluttery feelings, and euphoric moments.

The past two years have been filled with so many pivots, plot twists, and all things pandemic-related, but focusing on the positive – on the puppy love, on the living, on the hope – is what keeps us going.

In this issue, read about Seattle Area Feline Rescue's For the Love of Cats event (every Sunday this month!), how you can keep families together (and feel the Puppy Love all year long!) by becoming a foster home for Beck's Place, Seattle DogSpot's best local dog-friendly hotels,
PAWS - Progressive Animal Welfare Society teaming up with Wings of Rescue, Bunny Speed Dating with Special Bunny, and more!

Sending much "puppy love" to you from all of us here at Pet Connection Magazine

Welcome to the first articles of our Holiday 2021 issues, which feature a theme of Heart, Home, and Family.

You can read the articles here: https://www.petconnectionmagazine.com/november-december-2021-issues

Many of us have spent far more time in our homes than we ever thought we would (your humble co-publishers included!) with our families. For us here at Pet Connection Magazine, “family” goes beyond blood relation and includes beloved friends and two-, three-, and four-legged animal friends, too.

What does “family” really mean to you? Let us know in the comments section below!

Our Holiday issues feature a special shop local gift guide, how to make your home homier for your dog, an introduction to local contractor extraordinaire James Dalton of James Dalton Construction LLC, how you can help local rescues this holiday season, a recap of PAWS - Progressive Animal Welfare Society's wildlife rescues, how to make dog holiday crafts, and so much more.

So here’s to home. Here’s to family. And here’s to being thankful for those we love, especially during a time of so much uncertainty and sadness. Now, more than ever, I am thankful for the blessings in my life, including all of you. This holiday season, may you all find ways to cope, create, and connect, and may these ways help you spark joy with those you love.

Happiest of holidays, from our family to yours.

AHELP Project Oskar the Blind Cat & Klaus

It feels like my cat has suddenly become a little old man. Six years ago, when I adopted Vinny, the shelter had him at 10-11 years, but because of his spunky personality and good body condition, I thought that was way off, and my vet agreed. He may be about 11 or 12 now, maybe older. Vinny had/has t
