WPEO Radio The WORD is a program oriented, Christian station. It includes Bible teaching, talk, public affairs, The station went back on the air in August, 1950 as WPEO.

History: AM 1020 first began broadcasting as WMMJ in 1946, which went off the air in 1949 due to financial problems. In 1956 WPEO became one of the state's first Top-40 music stations and in 1960 WPEO changed to a Country format. WPEO began Christian broadcasting in 1970. It was purchased by the Pinebrook Foundation, Inc. and in 2012 Pinebrook Foundation sold WPEO to WPEO Radio Foundation, Inc., a

non-profit corporation. Slogan: "The Word"

Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute went to his heavenly reward this morning. His radio presence on WPEO began in 1984, and possibly earlier, but that's the oldest record we can find. Dr. Dobson was responsible for three of our current programs: "Focus on the Family," "Family Talk" and "Washington Watch." "Family Talk," heard at 11:30 A.M. M-F, will begin a series of memorial programs on Friday, August 22 honoring Dr. Dobson's life and legacy.
Dr. Dobson was 89 years old.
