A Message from Just Semaj – The Gentleman of R&B/Soul 🎙️✨
I’m never the first call for performances. I’m rarely asked to be featured on projects. I’m not often invited to host events or do media. I’m never nominated for awards, even though I’ve accomplished some major things.
My radio show streams in multiple countries. My music reaches people worldwide. And yet, in this industry, I don’t get called for much.
And you know what? That used to bother me. But I’ve realized something powerful—I don’t need an invitation.
I’m one of the easiest artists to work with. I show up on time—usually first. I respect the stage, I honor the craft, and I bring my full self to every performance. My vocals are strong, my stage presence is authentic, and my passion is undeniable. I don’t require much; I just show up and deliver. No gimmicks, just raw talent and love for what I do.
Still, I know I may not fit the mold for those making the decisions. And that’s okay. With every rejection comes an opportunity.
I never let the “no’s” stop me, no matter how much they hurt. If I’m not invited, I create my own table. That mindset has shaped me—not just as an executive producer, vocal producer, songwriter, artist, entrepreneur, scriptwriter, model, actor, and content creator—but as a Black, gay man navigating this industry at 30 years old.
What I’ve learned is that everyone has their time. And if it’s not your time yet, that doesn’t mean you stop working. You push forward when you’re tired, when you’re burnt out, when you’re broke, when you don’t know how you’ll make it happen. You do the work when the odds are stacked against you.
To those who have called on me, who have supported me, and even to those who didn’t believe in me—thank you. Because one thing no one can take from me is Just Semaj – The Gentleman of R&B/Soul.
That’s my legacy. And I’ll keep building it until the end of my time.
Keep working. Keep believing. Your time will come. I’m living proof that it will.
