12 years ago I did my first wedding at Belle Mer: A Longwood Venue in this very room, the Island House. Tonight, I'll do my last at this venue. The view of the bridge, the seaview the entire night, and that breeze when the doors are open is pretty special.

I'll miss all of that and I'll miss dancefloors like this but you know what I'll miss also that is something I don't talk about often is the "looks".

The looks like the couple tonight who try hard to hold back tears every time they look at each other but can't and fall into each other's arms crying with happiness. The looks Dads give to daughters, Moms give to sons knowing they are a little more grown after today and starting that next chapter. Those looks from lifelong friends to the couple during their toasts knowing girls and guys nights might look a little different but for the better as they reflect on the great times together.

There are so many parts to a wedding that are so emotional and that's something I'm surely going to miss.

Until that last wedding this October, I'll keep watching for those looks and know this isn't about just one day, it's about a lifetime of memories that gets celebrated on this day.

Cheers to every couple, family member, and friend who I've celebrated with the past 21 years!

I've been a DJ for a long time and have met so many incredible people but sometimes there are some people that just stand out from the crowd. Michael is one of those people and this morning we received the most devastating news of his passing. Honestly trying to find the words right now to explain how much of a bright, selfless, caring soul he is. We sat in meetings with Michael and Heidi for hours not because the planning took that long but because we would get carried away into conversations about so many other things and being around these two people was really so soul filling. They had a wedding surrounded by friends and family that loved them so deeply and have brought a beautiful little girl into this world. I'm asking all of you today to send all the positive vibes to this grieving family and keep them in your thoughts. Heidi, we are so so sorry. 😢😢😢

Truth is, it's getting harder and harder at every wedding for me. I looked around last night at this crowd, completely embedded in their energy and thought what will it be like to not feel this every weekend. Shook me a bit to be honest. The wedding industry is a different vibe. Some do it just as a job but there are some vendors out there that have lived this crazy industry to its fullest. Groom's Mom came up to be last night twice and said "my son couldn't stop talking about how great you were during the planning, now I know why". I feed off people, and the really special couples and families I have met over the past 21 years of hosting events are the only thing that have made it a little easier to be away from my own family on weekends. I want each of my past couples to know how much I appreciate you. I'm not done yet and I'm going to give it everything I have until the last song.

Last night bumped! It's going to be really hard playing the last song at my final wedding next year. Two decades of rocking weddings and making people dance. To say it's been soul filling would be an understatement.

I've written this in my head a hundred times. Truthfully I've actually teared up most of them and I'm not really one to get emotional.

For 21 years I've had the pleasure of celebrating some of the biggest moments in so many couple's lives. I've laughed, danced, shared dinners, drinks and made so many memories with incredible people along the way. From those very couples to their family, friends, and vendors throughout New England you have become my work family. Many of you I consider close friends who I talk to regularly today.

It's funny because some people look at DJ's or even the wedding industry in general and don't really consider it a respectable profession. For those of us who are in it, we know how unique this industry is and how important it is to those who ask us to be a part of their special day. Calling out of work is just not an option for us.

That leads me to the reason for this post and announcement. A couple of weeks ago my doctor gave me news that I truthfully knew might come one day but a part of me was in denial. For the sake of time the summary is because of my severe bleeding disorder (vWD III) that I was born with and internal ankle bleeding throughout my life leading to an ankle fusion, I'm at a point where I need an additional ankle fusion and opposite ankle replacement. Even with that replacement, the benefit of the surgery is typically worthy of a decade of relief with no further treatment available after that.

So that has left me in a position to need to make life changes to prolong needing that surgery and minimizing any impact to my joints. I've gone as far as going vegan based on my doctor's suggestion to try to see if it will help with the pain and inflammation.

The other thing that must change is my career in the wedding industry. The impact of moving heavy equipment and standing on my feet for 10 hours has become too much. Truthfully I was already on my 5 year journey to transition out of the industry but this news made it a 14 month transition instead.

It's with tears in my eyes that I'm announcing today I will no longer be contracting any more events going forward.

The run has been incredible and turning down weddings over the past two weeks has been so incredibly hard. At the end of the day though, when Madison gets older and if she chooses to get married, I want to be able to walk as normal as I can down the aisle with her and continue sharing experiences with her. When Nelly and I retire which hopefully will be in 15 years max, (goals people) I want to walk on the beach with her and go tear up a dance floor ourselves. For these and so many other reasons I need to do what's necessary to maintain my health today to have as close to a normal lifestyle as I can tomorrow.

Please understand I know there are so many people in worse situations than I am and I have never and don't ever want anyone to feel bad for me. All I want is for each of you that have trusted me with your wedding or event, each of you who I've worked beside at one of those events, or anyone who's ever danced on a dance floor in front of me to know how thankful I am for you and how much I've enjoyed dancing behind my DJ booth with you! I'm forever grateful and hope that on my next journey we will still get to share some really great memories together.

To my couples between now and October of next year when I wrap it up in Newport, RI, I'm coming in strong to finish this ride off!

Life's funny, I feel that it throws obstacles in the way of people to give them the opportunity to become better. You only become better by overcoming those obstacles though and not giving in. I won't settle for what I've been told is expected so I'll do what is necessary to create a better end result, hopefully I'll catch a few wins along the way.

I appreciate your time and wish you all health and happiness. - "My name is Chris Saraiva, thanks for partying with me for the past 21 years, I hope you all had a great time!"

20 years! I just celebrated the 20th year in my Wedding DJ career having hosted my first wedding at the Abbey Grille in 2000. What should be a big milestone for me felt a bit empty. Was this really the year that I am going to celebrate this event? The answer is still yes. What was supposed to be my busiest year in my career ended up being the slowest. The rules put in place due to Covid caused all kinds of adjustments in the way I handled events but still, looking back on it now, moments like the one in this picture are part of my journey. Instead of almost 50 weddings this year I hosted 5. Couples cried on the phone with me this year not knowing how to handle the situation. Conversations with other vendors were filled with frustration due to lack of government support or guidance. It seemed everyone was left to fend for themselves. Still, this year can not be the one that overshadows the other 19. The brides and grooms being lifted in the air. The parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all singing at the top of their lungs. The friends who rocked out to new tracks, old classics, and even cultural songs they knew nothing about. The tears of joy, high fives of happiness, hugs of appreciation that have happened over the past two decades have fulfilled me in ways I can't explain and made me a better person. As I reflect on all of this I want to send out some thank you's. First, to each and every couple that trusted me to host one of the most important days of your life, thank you! To each vendor I have worked beside in creating memories for our couples especially those who I've created a special bond and friendship with, thank you! To the families and friends that danced in front of me, thank you! To my parents, especially my Dad who's been helping me lug heavy cases up and down ramps, stairs, grass, and rocks for the better part of those 20 years, thank you! To my wife, Nelly Saraiva who joined me on this journey 11 years ago, who's been my sidekick with Chris and Nelly - Entertainment & Photography and my business partner working through all the ups and downs one day at a time, thank you! The journey isn't over, I have lots of dancefloors to fill but until then, Thank You!

20 Years in this industry and I thought I had seen it all. From hurricane wedding days to snowstorms and everything in between. I've fought through colds, joint pain, and even a stomach virus. But here we are, in 2020, my busiest year to date and we are dealing with something that is unpredictable and can really only be solved by actually doing nothing. Over the past month, I've received countless heartbreaking emails and calls from clients who have had to adjust to the current circumstances. What was to be a magical day over the next few months will just have to wait a bit more. I sympathize with each and every one of my clients. Over two years ago, because of the major hurricanes in Florida, we did not know if our wedding would happen as planned and I know the stress that caused us. We are now at the point where we are rescheduling all spring weddings and it looks like half of the summer. Some will still hopefully take place this year while others will wait until 2021. What I've promised to each and every client is my willingness to work through this together. I don't know where this will all end up, my hope is we learn from it, adapt, and become better because of it. I have this fire within me right now to push even harder when these weddings do come to make up for all that is happening now. I want to get back to moments like the one in this picture. Moments where the only focus is how incredibly fortunate you feel to have married your best friend. The moments that make our industry so fulfilling. We may be scared right now but if together we support, be respectful, and push through, this will only end up being a bump in our journey in this world. Stay safe, stay strong, and let's dance together soon! Much love to you, your family and friends!
