The California Department of Food and Agriculture has detected an Oriental fruit fly in portions of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, including the City of Eastvale. As a result, a quarantine has been issued.

This invasive pest threatens over 230 types of fruits and vegetables, including citrus, avocados, tomatoes, and peppers. To prevent its spread:
- Do not remove homegrown fruits or vegetables from your property.
- Produce may be consumed, processed, or disposed of on-site. If disposing, double-bag and place in regular trash.

State and county officials are actively implementing eradication measures to protect California’s food supply and natural resources.

A detailed map is available at www.cdfa.ca.gov/plant/off/regulation.html

For more information, contact the CDFA Pest Hotline at 1-800-491-1899.

09/23/2025

As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient roadway network, we will soon begin a Residential Slurry Seal Project on select streets throughout the City. This preventative maintenance work is essential for extending the life of our streets and ensuring a smoother ride for everyone who lives, works, or travels in Eastvale. This project will include both Cape Seal and Slurry Seal treatments across select neighborhoods.

What the Cape Seal Process Involves:

The cape seal process will be carried out in phases over a few days per location:

- Preparation & Notification – Streets selected for treatment will be marked in advance, and notices will be posted in affected areas.
- Chip Seal Application – Crews apply the first layer of asphalt binder and gravel.
- Sweeping – Loose gravel is swept up within a couple of days.
- Slurry Seal Application – A final smooth coating is applied over the surface.
- Final Cleanup – Streets are inspected and reopened for full use.

What the Slurry Seal Process Involves:

The slurry seal process will be carried out in phases over a few days per location:

- Preparation & Notification – Streets selected for treatment will be marked in advance, and notices will be posted in affected areas.
- Base Repairs – Crews do base repairs and crack sealing.
- Sweeping – Loose gravel is swept up within a couple of days.
- Slurry Seal Application – A petroleum-based emulsion product mixed with sand and fine black aggregate is applied. Product is blended on-site in the truck then evenly applied across the roadway. There will be some discoloration that will go away once the slurry seal is cured in 1-2 weeks.
- Final Cleanup – Streets are inspected and reopened for full use.

The Residential Slurry Seal Project is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and continue through late October 2025 (but before Halloween), depending on weather conditions and scheduling.
