AES encourages electricity conservation

Temporary outages possible

Staff report

DAYTON – Dec. 24, the PJM Interconnect, the electricity grid operator for 65 million people in 13 states and the District of Columbia, has requested its member utilities, including AES Ohio, for voluntary energy conservation.
The call for conservation was prompted by pressure from high demand due to the winter weather brought on by near-zero temperatures.
AES Ohio is asking its customers to voluntarily reduce their use of electricity now through 10 a.m. on Dec. 25.

Customers can take simple electricity conservation steps such as:
• Setting thermostats lower than usual, if health permits,
• Delaying use of major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers until other times.
• Turning off non-essential electric lights, equipment and appliances.

“We sincerely appreciate the cooperation and patience of our customers, who can help ensure the stability and reliability of the system for all by taking these steps,” said Kristina Lund, president and CEO AES Ohio. “Public conservation can make a difference, and every little bit counts.”

In the event that additional measures are necessary, AES Ohio would begin emergency temporary interruptions of service to customers to extend available power generation and help maintain operations until additional power is available. These outages would be temporary and rotated among customers and would continue until additional electricity is available and normal operation of the power grid resumes.

About AES Ohio
AES Ohio is the principal subsidiary of DPL Inc. (DPL), a regional energy provider and an AES company. AES Ohio, a regulated electric utility, provides service to over 527,000 customers in West Central Ohio. Sheriff Streck warns of phone scams

Staff report

DAYTON – Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck announced June 10 that there has been several phone call scams that have been circulating throughout the community and he is sending out a warning to residents to be cautious.

There are phone calls being made to residents where the caller presents himself as a "Sergeant Mark Worley” claiming to be from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The caller tells the resident that they have failed to appear in court or that there was a legal matter that they needed to discuss with the resident. The caller is then asked to provide a substantial payment or else they would have a warrant out for their arrest.

The caller requests that this payment be made through PayPal, Apple Pay, a money order or by another method of payment or else they would be arrested.

Fraudulent callers have even been known to clone phone number to appear legitimate on the incoming caller ID. Often, the phone number may appear to be coming from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, while in fact, the phone number has been spoofed.

“These scammers can be very convincing and while in hindsight it may be easy to blame the victims, please keep in mind that these ruthless scammers are very successful at targeting people from all walks of life and age groups,” said Sheriff Rob Streck.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office never calls residents and threatens arrest for unpaid fines, warrants, missed court dates, etc. Residents who may receive calls such as these should hang up and report it to their local police department.
