The Arnett Oklahoma Mothership/Tornado Combo

This chase ranks among the best of the 2025 season with a classic dryline supercell that spun up a few tornadoes and had remarkable lp (low precipitation) structure. While dodging giant hail, some stones greater than 4.5-5" wide, our chase tour group got to witness what true tornado alley is all about in Oklahoma. The storm would become undercut by some stable air shortly after and then give us some incredible LP supercell structure at sunset. Such a wild day!

November G4 Aurora Event

Top 5 time! Coming in at number 5 was the epic Aurora event that lasted much of the night bringing the most intense reds I've ever seen to the naked eye. The Golden Valley Church made the perfect composition for this event. It was crazy to see the church glow in greens and reds as the aurora danced overhead. The Aurora was seen in extremely low latitudes along the Mexican border and even Hawaii!

The Laverne Oklahoma MOTHERSHIP!!!

This late season setup set the stages for a epic long tracked/long duration supercell that has some incredible mothership supercell structure. The storm made capturing it nearly impossible as you had to play right along the giant hail core to have an angle at the vault, and if you were to far South or West, you were blinded by the Western sun. Southwest moving supercell sure make it tricky to capture, but they can have some of the most impressive structures!

Pure Colorado Magic - White Rope Tornado
June 4th, 2025

This chase is one that holds special value to me that I will always hold close to my heart. 5 days prior to this chase, my father passed away from a tough battle with stage 4 lung cancer. I was in a deep dark spot going thru the pain of the loss, as you would expect. I felt like I was in a terrible head space, and I've learned that the open road and storms helps me heal. The thing about this day is that there wasn't a chance of tornadoes, like at all (spc had a 0% tornado risk and just general thunder storm probs). However, a boundary set up from the Lamar to Kim, Colorado area and all day it destabilized giving marginal parameters for storms. I set up shop in Kim at a pinned abandoned farmstead I had. My goal was just to get a nice composition with some lightning maybe. Well, Colorado Magic had different plans as my storm decided to latch on the boundary and produce a completely unexpected photogenic rope tornado. I was dumbfounded how a2d why it happened as the parameters just didn't seem possible, and it produced the tornado PERFECTLY behind the bando. I think there was other factors at play this day as I was carrying an immense amount of pain from the loss, and I feel like someone up above pulled some strings to help me out. I know...crazy talk...probably was just Colorado Magic but it helped me tremendously at that moment and will forever be remembered πŸ™β˜ΊοΈ

Texas HP Supercell Structure Fest

This chase featured good ole NW Texas Structure! We started out in the SE Panhandle near Matador, TX where we were just on time arriving to a supercell in progress exhibiting some nice classic structure with pretty decent rotation. The storm however began to be interfered with by other updrafts on its SW flank (a sign of some messier storm mode due to shear vectors along the boundary issues). Another HP storm with a bunch of striations took over for the next hour or so, but it wasn't all that impressive. We noticed to our South and East yet another set of new updrafts and storms forming near the Rochester, TX area (about 40mi away). We made the decision to split away from the crazy convergence and blasted South. What we were greeted to was some incredible HP supercell structure. The storm was was taking full advantage of the down stream unstable environment, and didn't have to fight with other nearby storms. We got to witness several cycles of this supercell all the way to dark, each giving us impressive supercell structure. What was neat about this storm was every new cycle it went thru, it would absorb the old meso into its forward flank, and the new structure would appear further S/SW on the boundary, which made it tricky to chase and navigate. Furthermore, during one of these cycles the storm produced some INSANE widowmaker bolts. My buddy Matt caught a sick bolt from this storm. I wasnt so lucky but got some nice full framers and complimentary bolts to go with the storm!

Supercharged Sidney Supercell

This highly electric supercell put on the best lightning barrage of the year for me. After spending ALL DAY blasting West starting the day near Cleveland, OH (yes I was in Ohio for family matters) I arrived to Sidney, Nebraska just after storms began to erupt along i80. My chase buds Justin and Matt linked up once I pulled up and the three of us watched as a supercell was born. We moved just west of town and were greeted to an INSANE lightning barrage. The supercell was spitting out clear air bolts all over the place, several landing extremely close. The storm ramped up further and went tornado warned, and produced a small quick multi-vortex tornado. As sunset neared, the storm transitioned into an outflow dominant supercell/shelf that maintained its extreme lightning barrage ramping up further sending out huge branchy bolts ahead of the shelf. Some of those bolts landed VERY close to us sending huge sonic booms of thunder. It was chaos! The sky turned this ominous green as the setting suns light glowed through the core during all that chaos which really made the scene surreal. Such a badass day! Love Western Nebraska storms!

August Supercell Lightning Palooza!!!

This chase featured a longer duration supercell across SE Colorado. The storm formed in a place where road networks and terrain play a factor on being able to navigate around and even chase the storm. It pays to know a little bit of how the back roads work out there! This storm wasn't so much known for its structure however, but for its INSANE Lightning barrage the went well into the night! Make sure to check out the timelapses attached! Its wild! The bolts this storm tossed out of its electrical updraft were pretty crazy!

Grover Colorado Mothership

This chase setup was one of those head scratchers for me that way over exceeded my expectations of the day. The day featured a sagging boundary drifting into NE Colorado that had NE surface winds below stronger NW flow aloft. This combo of shear hasn't yielded the best of days for me, but if the environment is just right, that amount of directional shear can really carve out supercell structure. It really came down to how much we would destabilize that afternoon. Luckily, behind that sagging boundary we got into the low 80s and it was just enough to cook up a monster of a supercell off the Cheyenne Ridge. Smoke in the area made viewing challenging, but as the storm really ramped up, it cleared out enough of the smoke to view its very round and tiered/layered structure. It certainly exceeded what I thought was possible and left me with one heck of an awesome supercell. Good ole Weld County Magic!

North Platte Landspoots & Mega Bolt!

This day was quite the interesting day as a strong stationary boundary became the focal point of an intense supercell that would produce a couple longer lived landspouts, and then become a nice structured supercell with an insane mega bolt capture! I was working a tour at this point and alot of the people being from overseas just dont get storms like this. They were mesmerized by the structure and bolts coming out of this storm. It was also 2 guests first tornadoes witnessed. Its a great feeling to nail a forecast and get a tour guest there first Noodles. It was a fun storm for sure, and because I was able to capture a mega bolt with a landing point, it was worthy of my top 15 😊😊😊

NUMBER 13 ***Top 15 Storm Chases of 2025***

The Fort Stockton Mothership Supercell

Coming in at number 13 is this powerful mothership supercell that tracked near the Fort Stockton, Texas area. It had been years since I made the trip down to the I20/I10 areas of SW Texas. It's not one of my areas I typically target, as service can be sketchy, and the road network is dismal. You basically have 2-3 roads to chase on in that area, and if a storm does track just right, your still struggling with hills and canyons that block views. This storm however, ramped up at just the right time. Right before this storm become completely unchasable, it went beast mode with both its massive mothership structure, and producing a larger cone tornado that was PDS warned. The tornado was only visible from my vantage point for about 2-3 minutes before getting buried in the core. The 2nd image is the best I saw of it (which isn't much). Still a fun late April chase in an area not so friendly that was very successful!

NUMBER 14 ***Top 15 Chases of 2025***

Cheyenne Ridge Magic | 08/01/2025

Coming in at number 14 for this year was this Cheyenne, WY supercell that put on a great show. This storm tracked slowly all the way to Grover, CO bringing an intense lightning barrage, and some great composition opportunities! What was weird about this day is that the main area of concern appeared to be much further East by Pine Bluffs and Kimball. I was late getting off work and saw a secondary area becoming primed by Cheyenne, WY. This was my only option as I was arriving late to the show. Luckily, the atmosphere failed to destabilize further East, and a boundary was pushing North with 60 dews. That is a recipe for goodness when it comes to the Cheyenne Ridge! Just as I arrived in Cheyenne, I set up on an overlook and watched a rapidly strengthening storm turn into a supercell West of town. Then, that boundary I mentioned arrived and almost immediately we got a rapidly spinning base that produced a quick spiny spin vortex on the ground (it was brief). Then the storm began to further strengthen into a powerful supercell producing very large hail in Cheyenne, and 60-70mph outflow winds. The storm would slowly drift to Grover, CO tying to cycle repeatedly, but only to fail. The motions in the clouds were wild, and backlit by the setting sun. The lightning this storm produced was wild as well! Got some great pics from those bolts!
August in the Tri-State area can produce some of the craziest storms around here!
