This page is my one stop shop for all of my storm chasing a photography adventures! I have been chasing for over 15 years now across Tornado Alley! I seek to find Mother Nature's most extreme weather across the United States including Tornadoes, Supercells, Hur

ricanes, and much more. I have shifted my focus the last 5 years into the photography and timelapse side of storm chasing. I love seeking out that perfect composition and bringing storms to life by timelapse. Those time-lapses can be found in several films that I've put together annually for those to enjoy - See my Motion V - A Storm Timelapse Film for my latest work!!! All of my work can also be found via my website at www.coloradoweathernut.com OR on any of my social handles down below. All work featured on this page can be purchased for prints/wall displays. August Supercell Lightning Palooza!!!

This chase featured a longer duration supercell across SE Colorado. The storm formed in a place where road networks and terrain play a factor on being able to navigate around and even chase the storm. It pays to know a little bit of how the back roads work out there! This storm wasn't so much known for its structure however, but for its INSANE Lightning barrage the went well into the night! Make sure to check out the timelapses attached! Its wild! The bolts this storm tossed out of its electrical updraft were pretty crazy!

Grover Colorado Mothership

This chase setup was one of those head scratchers for me that way over exceeded my expectations of the day. The day featured a sagging boundary drifting into NE Colorado that had NE surface winds below stronger NW flow aloft. This combo of shear hasn't yielded the best of days for me, but if the environment is just right, that amount of directional shear can really carve out supercell structure. It really came down to how much we would destabilize that afternoon. Luckily, behind that sagging boundary we got into the low 80s and it was just enough to cook up a monster of a supercell off the Cheyenne Ridge. Smoke in the area made viewing challenging, but as the storm really ramped up, it cleared out enough of the smoke to view its very round and tiered/layered structure. It certainly exceeded what I thought was possible and left me with one heck of an awesome supercell. Good ole Weld County Magic!

North Platte Landspoots & Mega Bolt!

This day was quite the interesting day as a strong stationary boundary became the focal point of an intense supercell that would produce a couple longer lived landspouts, and then become a nice structured supercell with an insane mega bolt capture! I was working a tour at this point and alot of the people being from overseas just dont get storms like this. They were mesmerized by the structure and bolts coming out of this storm. It was also 2 guests first tornadoes witnessed. Its a great feeling to nail a forecast and get a tour guest there first Noodles. It was a fun storm for sure, and because I was able to capture a mega bolt with a landing point, it was worthy of my top 15 😊😊😊

The Fort Stockton Mothership Supercell

Coming in at number 13 is this powerful mothership supercell that tracked near the Fort Stockton, Texas area. It had been years since I made the trip down to the I20/I10 areas of SW Texas. It's not one of my areas I typically target, as service can be sketchy, and the road network is dismal. You basically have 2-3 roads to chase on in that area, and if a storm does track just right, your still struggling with hills and canyons that block views. This storm however, ramped up at just the right time. Right before this storm become completely unchasable, it went beast mode with both its massive mothership structure, and producing a larger cone tornado that was PDS warned. The tornado was only visible from my vantage point for about 2-3 minutes before getting buried in the core. The 2nd image is the best I saw of it (which isn't much). Still a fun late April chase in an area not so friendly that was very successful!

Cheyenne Ridge Magic | 08/01/2025

Coming in at number 14 for this year was this Cheyenne, WY supercell that put on a great show. This storm tracked slowly all the way to Grover, CO bringing an intense lightning barrage, and some great composition opportunities! What was weird about this day is that the main area of concern appeared to be much further East by Pine Bluffs and Kimball. I was late getting off work and saw a secondary area becoming primed by Cheyenne, WY. This was my only option as I was arriving late to the show. Luckily, the atmosphere failed to destabilize further East, and a boundary was pushing North with 60 dews. That is a recipe for goodness when it comes to the Cheyenne Ridge! Just as I arrived in Cheyenne, I set up on an overlook and watched a rapidly strengthening storm turn into a supercell West of town. Then, that boundary I mentioned arrived and almost immediately we got a rapidly spinning base that produced a quick spiny spin vortex on the ground (it was brief). Then the storm began to further strengthen into a powerful supercell producing very large hail in Cheyenne, and 60-70mph outflow winds. The storm would slowly drift to Grover, CO tying to cycle repeatedly, but only to fail. The motions in the clouds were wild, and backlit by the setting sun. The lightning this storm produced was wild as well! Got some great pics from those bolts!
August in the Tri-State area can produce some of the craziest storms around here!

***TOP 15 CHASES OF 2025***

Over the next few weeks, I am going to be counting down my top 15 chases of 2025 as we close out the year! This year was quite the roller coaster ride for me. It came with some of the most incredible storms I've witness in my life, but also came with some of the most painful hardships I've had to endure in my life. 2025 Will certainly go down as one of the top chase years in my career, but one of my worst years of hardships.

The Stoneham, Colorado Layered Supercell - Tornado Warned!

This storm chase was extra special to me as I had both my wife and daughter tagging along! We weren't expecting to crazy of storms this day, hence why I had my wife and daughter tag along for some fun backyard Colorado chasing. What transpired later that day impressed all of us as what we thought would be just a strong storm or two, turned into a longer duration tornado warned supercell over Weld County! My chase pals Matt and Justin also teamed up with us this day as we all got to see some true Colorado Magic!!!

It's WEDGE Wednesday!

This storm from 2022 is still in my top 20 of all-time storm chases for me! The Morton Wedge. The structure this storm exhibited was phenomenal. The razor sharp teeth feeding the updraft was something special. I was also lucky enough to catch a triple bolt striking out the front. The tornado was harder to see from our vantage point as we were ~ 5 miles east of it. The dust and haze this supercell was sucking in made for poor visibility, however, while the tornado was at its most mature/strongest phase, we could easily see the shape and its shear size! The image is still to this day one of my favorite structure/lightning/tornado combo shots!!!

Its SUPERCELL SUNDAY! Check out this incredible mothership supercell from Oklahoma this year! This wasn't your typical setup though, it was mid September and we tracked a powerhouse of a storm near Laverne, OK. Got to witness my first September Tornado this day as well!

Hey all!!! As you can see, I switched up some things on this page to shift more focus onto this page. Will start to really push a lot of my content back to here. Been doing it a bit backwards hahah.

Here is my favorite lightning event of 2025! Back in early July of 2025, we had a boundary stall out over the front-range. That evening, a stout impulse moved in from the West and right after sunset, we had Monsoon Palooza!!! The bolts that night were incredible!!!
