Thanks to the clouds and rain, temperatures stayed in the 50s all day in Eau Claire. The high officially came at 4:12 AM at 60°. The high of 60° officially set a new daily record for the coldest high temperature.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue to move across the area this evening. Thursday is partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Highs are in the upper 60s to low 70s. In the afternoon and evening, there is a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Buffalo, Trempealeau, Pepin, and Pierce County until 8 pm tonight.

Once the current system moves away tonight, there are still a few chances for rain in the forecast going forward. The best chance coverage wise looks to be Friday afternoon and evening as another system passes through.

The best concentration of rain at the moment is falling mainly along and north of US-10. There's been some heavier downpours in spots over the last one to two hours along and north of WI-64. Movement of the rain is to the east.

You'll want to have the rain gear handy throughout the day today as we're tracking a strong area of low pressure that'll be tracking near the area, bringing periods of rain showers along with embedded thunderstorms. Some pockets of heavy rain are possible along with a strong to marginally severe storm not being totally ruled out.

Our next round of showers and thunderstorms begins Wednesday morning. Throughout the day, occasional storms are expected with a small chance of some becoming strong to severe. After Wednesday, the next few days will have chances for isolated showers in the afternoon and evening.

The afternoon update from the Storm Prediction Center did not change anything for the outlook for Wednesday, keeping the level one risk in place for the areas in green.

The thinking from this morning has not changed as well (please see the previous post for more info). I’ll have another update coming up in the morning.
