UPDATE: The WINTER STORM WARNING area for tomorrow (Tuesday) into Wednesday morning has been expanded to in clude Barron, Rusk, Chippewa, Taylor, and Clark Counties in addition to Polk where it was already in effect.

This Warning area has the best chance to have 4"- 8" accumulations. Totals for Eau Claire, Dunn, and SW look to be in the 2"- 6" range and even lower closer to the Mississippi River.

Snow continues to move through the Chippewa Valley this evening, creating snow covered roads. It is only an hour or so in the moderate snow rates, but up to 2" is still possible in spots by tomorrow morning.

Once we get passed the two early week systems, the focus will then shift to another blast of frigid air that'll move in for the weekend. We could see a few flurries and/or light snow showers Thursday afternoon into Friday morning as another clipper passes through but this is the one that'll bring in the next round of frigid air.

Right now, highs will be in the teens Friday but struggling to get above zero Saturday with not much improvement by Sunday. Lows will be well below zero and with some wind around, wind chills could plummet into the 20s below.

It's too early to say if any cold weather alerts will be issued... but it's certainly not out of the question. We'll watch the trends over the next several days.

MID-MORNING UPDATE: We're still on track to see two rounds of snow in the forecast over the next few days. Round one will be tonight and looks to be about a trace to 2" of accumulation to the area.

Round two is still where the biggest questions remain as the track will be key. The latest round of data is starting to show more of a southerly track, which would mean more snow and a lower chance of rain and/or a wintry mix.

As talked about in the latest web forecast discussion (which you can view at wqow.com/weather), the track of this system will be key. Attached here is a view of futuretrack at noon and 6 PM Tuesday off two of the higher resolution models and you can see some of the differences.

We'll continue to analyze the data and Matt will have an update tonight so be sure to check back in with him for the latest.

I know the holiday is more popular where I grew up on the east side of Wisconsin, but tonight is the night to put out your stockings for St. Nicholas! Who else celebrates St. Nicholas Day with a stocking full of candy and toys on the morning of December 6?
