"Rockingham County School librarians have partnered with local businesses and the public library to offer a unique summer reading program called the RoCo Reading Trail starting June 5. It is designed to offer families a fun activity to do together during the summer to get out, explore their community, and READ.

Local businesses serve as stops along the “Reading Trail.” At each location, families will find a children’s book to read together. After visiting and returning the book, an employee will stamp the family’s RoCo Reading Trail Tracker. Students will work to collect stamps from each stop along the trail. No purchase necessary.

At the end of the program, families who complete all stops on the map will be entered into a Grand Prize Drawing. In addition, every child who completes at least 12 stops will receive a prize. Prizes will be distributed at each school’s Back to School Open House.

Hi friends,

Second Summit, RTN & Basecamp's outdoor thrift initiative, is seeking used and vintage outdoor gear and clothing. We are happy to pick up donations in the RoCo/Greensboro/WS area. So if you have backpacks, jackets, boots, fleeces, camp gear, or vintage outdoor pieces sitting around, send them our way.

My cell is (336) 339-6169. Please call or text. Shenandoah and I will be by to pick up!

We’re building the coffers for end-of-school-year field trips. 100% of profits go directly to teachers to cover the actual cost of taking students to local trails, which is usually just the bus mileage.

Teachers are heroic in handling the difficult parts: arranging the buses, coordinating drivers, organizing the students, and making the trip happen. RTN, with help from our friends, leads the trail trips free of charge. We can do that because we are a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit.

But the teachers need money to pull off these field trips. That's where Second Summit and you come in. A little funding goes a long way. In Rockingham County, a teacher can fund an entire grade level's trail field trip for about $150.
