We’ve been out and about again! We’ve been enjoying some time in Edenton, North Carolina, a charming town often referred to as “the prettiest small town in the south.”
Located on the Chowan River at the head of the Albemarle Sound, Edenton boasts a beautiful historic downtown. It is the site of the Edenton Tea Party, a significant political protest that took place in response to the Tea Act passed by the British Parliament in 1773. This event marked one of the earliest instances of political activism by women in the Thirteen Colonies.
The thriving downtown is full of boutiques, coffee shops, and great restaurants. We haven’t visited everything yet but we have really enjoyed Edenton Coffee House, Edenton Bay Trading Company, The Herringbone, Surf, Wind & Fire and the local Pizza Hut Classic! (When was the last time you had a pan pizza at a sit down Pizza Hut?)
There is so much history here! The Cotton Mill Village was the prettiest little neighborhood I’ve ever seen. The original mill has been converted into luxury condominiums. There is a museum right in the neighborhood and the entire village is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Edenton offers a self guided walking tour, official tours at several different sites, a trolley tour and boat tours.
It’s definitely worth a trip if you haven’t ever been here. And the people are some of the nicest I have ever met!
