πŸŽ† Fireworks season is almost here β€” celebrate safely!

As Missouri prepares for a busy summer of celebrations, including America 250 events and FIFA World Cup activities in the Kansas City area, the State Fire Marshal is reminding residents to put safety first.

Seasonal fireworks retailers may legally sell fireworks in Missouri from June 20 through July 10, but local rules can vary. Some cities and communities restrict or ban fireworks use, so residents should check local laws before lighting anything.

The Division of Fire Safety also reminds the public that fireworks, smoke bombs and other pyrotechnics are not allowed at Arrowhead Stadium, FIFA Fan Fest, public events, large gathering places and many Kansas City-area communities.

Fireworks can be dangerous. In Missouri in 2025, 358 people sought hospital care for fireworks-related injuries.

A few important safety reminders:

πŸŽ‡ Buy only from licensed retailers
πŸŽ‡ Use fireworks only in open areas away from flammable materials
πŸŽ‡ Keep children away from fireworks
πŸŽ‡ Have water or a garden hose nearby
πŸŽ‡ Light only one firework at a time
πŸŽ‡ Never relight a malfunctioning firework
πŸŽ‡ Never use fireworks while drinking alcohol
πŸŽ‡ Soak used fireworks in water before throwing them away

Public fireworks displays are still the safest way to enjoy the biggest and best shows.

Celebrate big β€” but celebrate safely! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

πŸ•°οΈ Step back in time on the Edina Town Square!

There’s a new place to explore in downtown Edina, and it is packed with treasures from the past.

Jesse and Tammy Sparks opened Sparks Retail on May 19 inside a historic building at 308 E. Lafayette Street β€” a location many may remember as Golden Rose Auction and, years before that, the Ben Franklin store owned by LaVerne and Joyce Dabney.

Inside, shoppers will find a little bit of everything:

✨ antiques and collectibles
πŸͺ‘ antique and modern furniture
πŸ‘œ jewelry, purses and clothing
🧸 children’s toys and dolls

🐴 saddles and tack
πŸ–ΌοΈ signs, paintings and pictures
🎁 new inventory every week

From a working vintage Victrola to unique collectibles and Americana, Sparks Retail offers the kind of shopping trip where you never know what treasure you might find.

The store is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Jesse and Tammy invite everyone to stop in and look around: β€œCome see what we have! There is new inventory every week. You will not be disappointed!”

🚌 Knox County R-I school bus inspection results released

Knox County R-I had 12 of its 17 buses approved during the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s 2026 annual school bus inspection program.

According to the Patrol’s report:

βœ… 12 buses approved
πŸ”§ 3 buses listed as defective
β›” 2 buses placed out of service

Buses with defective components must be repaired within 10 days. Any bus placed out of service must be repaired, reinspected and approved by Patrol personnel before it can be used to transport students.

The Patrol inspected more than 11,000 school buses statewide as part of the annual program, which helps ensure buses are safe before they return to the road.
