New Plains Student Publishing

New Plains Student Publishing We allow students the opportunity to edit and produce creative and scholarly journals each year.

New Plains Review is published semiannually in the spring and fall by the University of Central Oklahoma and is staffed by faculty and students. We are committed to publishing high quality poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction by established and emerging writers. New Plains Review started in 1986 as a student publication of the Liberal Arts College of Central State University (now the University

of Central Oklahoma). Over the years, New Plains Review has expanded its range to invite writers beyond the university community. We receive hundreds of submissions from all over the country, and the authors we publish range from the well-known to the soon-to-be-discovered. New Plains Review provides an outlet for the creative and intellectual efforts of the academic community. Dedicated to fostering and maintaining the written word, New Plains Review gives a collective presentation of a wide range of cultural perspectives and demonstrates the drive toward academic excellence upon which the University of Central Oklahoma is founded. We are proud to be the recent literary home of such authors as Stephen Dunn, Billy Collins, Galway Kinnell, Martin Ott, Eddie Chuculate, Michael Filimowicz, Kim Stafford, Carl Palmer, Peter Serchuk, Chavawn Kelley, and John Lee Clark.

We’ve updated our profile pictures across all social media platforms! The artwork in our new logo comes from Sherman Chaddlesone’s acrylic painting “I Think I Feel a Buffalo Dance Coming On.”
Sherman Chaddlesone (1947-2013) was a direct descendant of the great Kiowa war chief Santana. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he took classes with notable artists such as Alan Houser and Fritz Scholder. Chaddlesone did post graduate work at the University of Central Oklahoma, which honors him with the Sherman Chaddlesone Arts & Letters Lecture Series, which is held on Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
