Friday football preview

Edna (4-3, 3-1) at Goliad (6-1, 4-0)
Maxpreps rank: Goliad 23, Edna 33
Points for: Edna 280, Goliad 221
Points against: Goliad 125, Edna 161

If the Cowboys want to win the district crown, they will have to take down Goliad. Defeating Goliad will create a three-way tie in the district, alongside Orange Grove. If Edna loses to Goliad, and they and Goliad and O.G. wins out in the final two weeks, Edna will finish third in district. If Edna loses and West Oso defeats London on Friday, Edna will lock up a playoff spot. Goliad already has locked up a playoff spot and an O.G. win over Aransas Pass on Friday will lock up a second of four playoffs spots.
Goliad’s lone loss was a 38-7 beatdown to State ranked Tidehaven in week two.
After Goliad, Edna finishes the regular season at West Oso and then hosting Palacios.

Boling (1-6, 1-2) at Industrial (2-5, 2-1)
Maxpreps rank: Industrial 29, Boling 36
Points for: Boling 182, Industrial 138
Points against: Industrial 211, Boling 218

All of Industrial’s early-season hard work paid off when they picked up their first win- a district win-and then followed with a second district win and suddenly, they are on the verge of grabbing a playoff spot. Industrial needs one more win to lock up a playoff spot. Tidehaven and East Bernard have already locked up two of the four spots and Brazos (3rd), Industrial (4th) and Boling (5) are fighting for the final two playoff spots. Barring a bunch of huge upsets, Van Vleck and Rice are eliminated.
Industrial is hosting Boling in the Cobras homecoming game, so Industrial should have extra motivation. With games at East Bernard, and then finishing the season hosting Brazos, Industrial hopes to lock up a playoff spot with a win this week.

Ganado has a bye this week and will play at Bloomington on Halloween. The Indians have already locked up a playoff spot and will capture the district title outright with one more win, or if Flatonia and Weimar both lose on Friday.

Joseph, an immigrant from Poland after World War II, then liberated and became a proud citizen of the United States of America. He grew up in Long Island, NY, before joining the United States Air Force and subsequently met Kathryn while stationed in Waco, Texas. Once Joseph and Kathryn were married, he spent 40 years in Vanderbilt, Texas as a cotton farmer, and as an involved member of the community, including being a school board member, the Chief of the volunteer fire department and an EMT. Since 2004 he has been a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana.

A graduate of Bellport High School, Joseph joined the United States Air Force, where he became a Navigator and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. Whenever he was asked about his favorite memories, his answer was “did you know I wrote a book…would you like a copy”. Late in life Joseph’s story from Poland to the US and all of his achievements were chronicled in The Memoir of Joseph F. Dubicki, published by Raconteur Life Story Writing.

He was a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Joseph’s caregivers with a special thanks to Laquenta Yokum and Ladaysha Yokum, who provided compassionate care and unwavering support over the past few years. Edna wins big over Mathis
Needing another district win to keep a chance to win the district title, Edna traveled to Mathis and brought the power on both sides of the ball as they won 48-12.
The Cowboy offense began quickly as Trevor Floyd sandwiched a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown around a Mathis interception made by Jadale Barnes.
Facing a 21 point deficit entering the second quarter, Mathis started moving the ball and got inside the Edna 10 before Jordan Bryant pulled in an interception.
On the same drive, Maverick Robertson took the handoffs and added another touchdown for the cowboys, who carried a 27-0 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter Aiden Lugo showed what he could do as he scored on a pass reception from Floyd and then scored again on a run.
Mathis finally got on the board when, after a long kickoff return, they found the end zone, but failed on their two point conversion attempt and the game moved to the fourth quarter with Edna holding a 41-6 lead.
Both teams added a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Edna left with the 48-12 win.
Edna (3-3, 2-1) will host London (3-3, 2-1) on Friday, October 17, at 7 p.m.
