Perhaps some of the most recognizable tunes outside of our format came from Chuck Mangione. As soon as "Feels So Good," or "Land of Make Believe" hit, whether they knew who it was or not, people immediately recognized and loved his music.

R.I.P., Chuck Mangione...

Chuck Mangione, the Rochester jazz legend who created hits like "Feels So Good", has died, his attorney confirmed.

Believe it or not, we are already halfway through this year's WSIE Music Series!

For those of you who may not be aware, the WSIE Music Series is a fantastic way to put the spotlight on St. Louis-based bands and musicians, while also raising operational funds for this heritage, community-supported radio station.

Every set is carefully curated to provide our audience with a top-notch experience (for those who have joined us in the past, please feel free to comment on your experiences thus far!) from some of the best musical acts in our region. And all for a suggested donation of $10 per entrant to benefit WSIE 88.7 The Sound.

We would like to thank all of the awesome bands that have set the stages ablaze at the Miner's Theatre and at Old Herald Brewery & Distillery's outdoor amphitheater so far this season:

April 26: Breakin' Away: A Tribute to Al Jarreau was the first to take the stage in April at the Miner's Theatre. Led by Music Director Pete Ruthenburg, with a KILLER group of musicians, this ensemble featured the vocal talents of Joe Mancuso, Anita Jackson and Charles Glenn. All three embodied the spirit and the musical voice of the late, great Al Jarreau as they belted out hit after hit.

April 26: Janet Evra owned that stage at the Miner's Theatre. Featuring special guest Trumpeter and Vocalist Dawn Weber, Janet's unique Bossa Nova blend, including some fantastic covers alongside her brilliant original works, capped off a monumental night of music not to be missed!

May 24: Dubbed "Papa Ray Day," May is Blues month, so who better to select our Blues offerings than the Soul Selector himself? This year, Papa Ray brought the heat with some Texas Blues, courtesy of the John McVey Band! John and his band left the audience 100% satisfied with his expert guitar work and soulful vocals.

June 28: Bach to the Future made a triumphant return to the Old Herald stage as they brought their blend of Classical, Jazz, Fusion and Latin music. The audience was wowed as they put their own unique spin on J.S. Bach, Chick Corea, Aaron Copland and more! This performance was made all the more special with three surprise guest performers (Thank you to Hannah, Toby and Kendrick)!

We'd like to say THANK YOU to all of the bands who have performed in support of WSIE 88.7 The Sound, as well as our event sponsors:

Illinois Arts Council, NIE Insurance, Heil Sound, Spiritos Italian Grocery, Ramert Insurance Group, Autumn Hill Records and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Here is the list of our remaining shows this season. Be sure to join us ... DO NOT miss out:

July 26: The 2025 WSIE Music Series - Hard Bop Messengers
August 23: The 2025 WSIE Music Series - Playadors
September 27: The 2025 WSIE Music Series - Black Magic: The Santana Experience

We'll see you at Old Herald Brewery & Distillery!
