This Saturday on Down Yonder on The Roots FM - Free Form Radio, 11 to 1 pm

I owe you a New Releases show. Normally, I would have done so last Saturday, the first of the month, but I had to celebrate the music of John Hartford. Had to. So this week I make it up to by spinning recent releases, fresh cuts of grass you might not have heard yet -- and I've got a bunch of it. Expect to hear new music from Red Camel Collective, The Po' Ramblin' Boys, Benson, Dale Ann Bradley, and a bunch of others. Listen live at 11:00 on TheRootsFM.org, also available through the TuneIn Radio app. And remember, you can vote for The Roots FM as the best radio station in St. Louis in St. Louis Magazine's A-List poll. Vote once each day through June 16th. See you yonder ... and beyond.

Monday Night on BEYOND on The Roots FM - Free Form Radio, 6 pm

Tony Rice was born on June 8th, 1951. Sadly, he passed away on Christmas Day 2020 at the age of 69. During his four-decade career -- from his time with the Bluegrass Alliance and J.D. Crowe & The New South to his groundbreaking work as a founding member of the David Grisman Quintet to his recordings as part of The Bluegrass Album Band and as leader of his own band, The Tony Rice Unit -- he establishing himself as the greatest guitar stylist in bluegrass and acoustic music. Following in the fingerprints of Clarence White and Doc Watson, Rice's jazz-influenced innovations influenced every guitar player who followed him. His impact on the way guitar is played in bluegrass cannot be overstated. As Monday, June 8th, is the anniversary of the birth of Tony Rice, this week's BEYOND is dedicated to the music he made. Listen live at 6 pm on www.TheRootsFM.org, also available through the TuneIn Radio app. See you yonder ... and beyond.

Tony Rice's third album (his first on the Rounder label) has been re-mastered and is being re-released on Craft Recordings. Tim Stafford knows a thing or two about playing bluegrass guitar. He co-wrote the book on Tony Rice, STILL INSIDE. Stafford wrote this appreciation of the TONY RICE album for The Bluegrass Situation site. It's worth a read.

Guitarist and Tony Rice biographer Tim Stafford walks us through the vinyl and remastered digital reissue of Rice’s iconic eponymous album.
