A lot of people don’t realize that type 1 diabetes doesn’t have an age requirement.

Babies, teens, adults, it can show up at any time and any age. Each diagnosis can still be hard.

ā€¼ļøDKA awarenessā€¼ļø

4 days before diagnosis.

Looking back I can see how sick she looks.
She had lost pounds that were noticeable.
She wasn’t staying awake very much, she was so tired.
She started peeing sooo much and having more diaper changes than usual.
Drinking cup after cup of water.
Stomach pains that had her in tears.

All things we didn’t know were signs of DKA.
4 days later and they almost wouldn’t see her, just telling me she probably had the flu. I insisted or said I was going elsewhere and her pediatrician diagnosed her within 5 minutes of seeing her.

Her finger poke was 471. A1C was 12. We drove 45 minutes to the ER and had blood work done and then got airlifted to a hospital with an open PICU bed. This was absolutely the most traumatic experience of my entire motherhood.

DKA is a life threatening medical emergency. Knowing the signs can be life saving.

If you or your child has ever been in DKA, what symptoms did you experience or notice first?

Getting this letter in the mail yesterday isn’t something I expected. I had gotten an email a couple of months ago regarding recalled pumps.

Seeing this giant list of pumps that she has likely gotten was worrisome. It’s made me wonder if this has been the reasoning for some of her ā€œvery highā€ days when it seemed like nothing worked.

It’s hard to trust pumps when things like this happen because her life depends on getting insulin.

Getting diabetes supplies is like Christmas to me šŸ˜†

It’s also peace of mind.
A little less stress.
More dexcoms to do a change and hopefully have better results than we’ve had with this one.
And the nasal spray!! So happy to have more!

It was extra convenient because they brought them to me so I didn’t have to go anywhere this time!

Anyone else get excited about supplies? šŸ˜†

Anyone else just having horrible luck with sensor error/issues?

For the last day and a half it’s hardly given any readings. It’ll pop up here and there and then be in sensor issue again.

We still have 4 days left with this sensor.
We currently have no more sensors to even try and change it early. We should be getting more later this evening šŸ¤ž

No readings mean extra finger pokes.
Extra stress for mom.
A little more grumpiness from the princess that doesn’t want to do lots of pokes.

This is a side of T1D people outside of the community don’t understand.

Do you or your child use the T-Slim insulin pump? This momma is looking for any feedback and info about it. Please help her out below šŸ‘‡

ā€œMy son was diagnosed with T1D at age 17. He’s now 22 and graduating from college at the end of this month.

It’s been a journey to say the least. My husband and I get his dexcom alerts for highs and lows. I know during waking hours I don’t need to worry. It’s the lows that hit in the middle of the night. I don’t think there is answer for when do moms and dads stop worrying. Until I take my last breath I’ll always worry.

My son has been on omnipod since before he graduated from high school. He’s now considering T-slim insulin pump to get a better hold on those dreaded in the middle of the night lows. I don’t know anything about this insulin pump and would like more feedback from people with T1D that use this pump.ā€

An unexpected pod change can be frustrating first thing in the morning. This morning her pod was partially falling off, and then her little brother (1) decided to pull it the rest of the way off.

Then we ran out of insulin in the vial we were using and had to hurry and grab more.
Picking placement was hard when all of the spots still have some healing to do.

But letting her know how brave she is, how strong she is, and how she’s a warrior, always helps her feel a little bit better šŸ’™

Type 1 diabetics have immense resilience šŸ’™

Fishing and playing in the mud yesterday, and she was excited about this unicorn!

Even though dexcom was over 40 off šŸ™ƒ

Having type 1 diabetes doesn’t mean she can’t have fun, or good days. It just means we have to be extra cautious and be as prepared as possible.

Should have seen after the mud fight šŸ˜‚
Anyone else like to enjoy fishing?šŸŽ£
