Physical therapy with Ms. Govi is the absolute best! Happy to be back with her this week. ☺️

I get a lot of questions about Physical Therapy support and what exactly it is for and what does it consist of. I always tell parents to inquire with their pediatricians and request a referral for a physical therapy evaluation to see if it is something that can help your child. For Gianna she has been doing it for a very long time and it has helped her tremendously in so many different areas over the years. Here are a few key benefits:

-building strength to a very flimsy and weak and clumsy core
making her less prone to falls

-body awareness, postural control, sensory input, focus and attention, visual tracking etc.

-kicking, jumping, and other gross motor skills with both legs

-balance and coordination

-improves confidence and encourages active physical engagement

-stair climbing and descending safely

-helps improve her abnormal gait (developmental coordination disorder)

-improving and minimizing her toe walking and in-toeing

-improving right sided muscle weakness and tightness

-helped us obtain carbon fiber shoe insoles and AFO’s

these are just a few and I’m sure there are many more. I hope this helps someone. Again, if you suspect the need for physical therapy with your child do not hesitate to request a referral to physical therapy immediately. The earlier the intervention, the better!

Hello Parents,
I am sharing the allergen and ingredient information from Kona Ice. I do not see it posted anywhere on their truck and I don’t recall receiving this information from any sources from the school. I know they come out frequently and help fundraise for us which is why I feel compelled to share this information with you.

As many of us special-needs parents are aware our children are highly sensitive to certain ingredients including but not limited to artificial dyes and artificial food colorings (which seemed to be the biggest offenders). Not only does it have significant behavioral and neurological effects on our children, it is widely known to disrupt the gut-brain connection and burden our children’s liver and detox pathways.

These kind of ingredients can have very significant effects on our special needs children. So I wanted to share their ingredients to you so that we are all aware.

There are 72+ different flavors listed here and only 16 of them are listed as “dye free” and 4 of them listed as “always dye free” (see pages 15-19 for those flavors).

Today Gianna’s school and special needs class participated in the APEX Fun Run. We have done this many years before with Mikey and Danielle but it looked completely different. With them, we were the parents on the side rooting our kids on while they ran usually the most laps in thier grades ( 50+ laps) competitive as heck….. this year looked a little bit different with Gianna.

I’m not going to lie, I was happy to be participating with my daughter but at the same time I felt a little sad and I think that’s OK. It was hard trying to encourage her just to walk a lap while other kids her age were running past us so much independence, athleticism and enthusiasm…

I have to give it to her teachers! They usually have two kids for every teacher and if it hadn’t been for the parents that showed up for their kids the teachers would’ve had a very difficult time ensuring our kids got to participate. Every single child in her class needs 1:1 supervision. They all have different behaviors and different needs at different times. Some are runners… Some have meltdowns, Some did not want to put on the T-shirt like mine, Some wanted to sit on the grass in the middle of the track like mine, Some wanted to stop under the tunnel and just stand there like mine, Some wanted to just sit in the soccer goal the entire tome, some needed headphones like mine, Some needed to be carried at times like mine, Some to have their handheld during the entire time so they didn’t wander away like mine, Some wanted to remove articles of clothing like mine…. And the list goes on.

Thank you to the teachers for allowing our children to participate. And thank you to the parents for coming out and helping with your kids like you did. It takes a village in this autism community to make sure our kids get the same opportunities as others and I would say this event was a huge success!🙏💙♾️🧩
