Movies, and TV shows are not being done nearly as much in Hollywood anymore so much that 2026 is on track to become one of the slowest years on record for production. The decline has left these small businesses and workers in the field struggling to find jobs.

Duncan Sheik, who rose to fame with ‘90s pop hit “Barely Breathing” before composing the Tony-winning musical “Spring Awakening,” has died. He was 56.

Bob Mackie, the fashion designer best known for his sequined gowns and mega-watt clientele including Cher and Madonna, has died at 87 years old.

According to a statement released on his social media accounts, “he fulfilled his dream of being a Fashion and Costume designer, which is all he ever wanted to do.”

Mackie answered “How would you like to die” in VF’s Proust Questionnaire that “I would rather not.” But in his own words he lived a life on his own glittering terms. When asked, “If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be?” He said, “I wouldn't choose, I am happy with what I got!”

Local filmmaker Justin Burquist worked as a producer on “A Co**se in Kensington,” an independent horror/romcom from writer and director Brian Patrick Butler, set in San Diego’s Kensington neighborhood on Halloween 2010.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of LMGI Founding Member Jody Hummer.

Jody believed location work was, at its best, a partnership between filmmakers and communities. She created Film Bridge, a community-building initiative connecting productions with local residents and businesses while advocating for filming that respected and benefited the neighborhoods it entered.

Jody helped build our Guild and embodied the values at the heart of our profession: curiosity, compassion, respect and service. Her legacy lives on in the communities she championed and the relationships she nurtured.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Jody’s family, friends and colleagues.
