I opened an old client file and found a handwritten instruction limiting help to bills while keeping property and residence decisions with the older woman herself. My stomach dropped when the next week’s formal authority handed those same decisions to her nephew.

I documented the paper, cabinet location, and matching April 7 intake note without taking anything. When she asked for that note the next morning, I logged back in and found it had been moved into a folder I could no longer open.

I put the unsigned form in my bag after my husband warned my insurance could lapse if I did not sign by noon. My hands were sweating by the time I reached storage because I had spent a year believing a court had put him in charge of my finances.

I was standing in a stocked kitchen when my elderly client asked where the grocery cash was, even though every item she requested had already been delivered and paid for. My stomach dropped when her niece called forty-seven minutes later saying I had left her with nothing in the house. The shop’s suspension notice said my daughter damaged a gray sedan and returned all its keys before leaving, but one spare key fell out of her bag at our kitchen table. The afternoon photo showed the future damaged side pinned close to a wall, while the next-morning photo showed the car repositioned with a fresh scrape.
