š”Work with a great producer as soon as possible. A producer can help you develop your vision from the beginning of the project.
š”Rehearse until tight. Know your arrangements, lyrics, song structure, and tempos before you enter the studio.
š”Record to a click track. This helps you stay in time and itās ideal for the editing process.
š”Block sessions (half-day or full-day rates). Itās often cheaper blocking the entire day than booking just a couple of hours.
š”Book sessions wisely. For example, base tracks first, then overdubs, and then vocals.
š”Be on time. The clock usually starts at the mutually agreed starting time.
š”Donāt try to do everything in one day. Creative focus starts to drop after 6 hours. Recommendation:
ā
6 to 8 hours max per day
š« Avoid going beyond 10 hours
š”Communicate clearly with other musicians, producers, engineers or staff who will be in the studio. Make sure everyone knows their role and set expectations ahead of time.
š”Limit the amount of people in the studio. Itās tempting to bring friends, collaborators, or family, but too many voices can slow decision-making and create distractions.
š”Donāt forget to take breaks while in the studio. Use the breaks to step outside, hydrate, and stretch.
