Tech Tip ~ Choosing the Correct Oil Filter

In the classic car hobby, you will hear more discussion, debates, possibly flat out rivalries over oil types, weights, additives and duration. While we will not be discussing specific oil types in this piece, we do want you, the new Corvair owner, to know what your options are regarding available oil filters and the importance in changing them. The old rule was, under normal driving conditions, to change your oil and filter every 3 months or 3,000 miles....

Revisiting Great Articles ~ The other lasting legacy of the Chevrolet Corvair, Hagerty Media 2018

Today, we wanted to revisit this interesting and informative article from Benjamin Hunting, originally published in 2018 with Hagerty Media. The original article can be found here. Enjoy! General Motors is a favorite punching bag for futurists and stockholders alike. Both parties share disappointment in what’s perceived as a lack of motivation for bringing innovative automotive technologies to the market....

Tires!

Tires. We all have them. Some are sporty. Some are skinny. Some are fat. Some are bald. Some are European and exotic, while others like to maintain a low profile. The topic of tires came up at yesterday's SFBA Holiday lunch. Based on the chatter throughout the room, I would imagine that hundreds of topics, stories and anecdotes were shared, but with the (California) winter weather upon us and a new year on the horizon, we thought it would be a good time to sit down and have a talk with you about those tires....

Yenko Stingers at the MCACN

This year's MCACN (Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals) recently wrapped in Illinois right before Thanksgiving. "Cool story, what does this have to do with Corvairs?", you say? This year, A LOT! The Corvair Yenko Stinger was the invitational mark this year as it was the 60th anniversary of its release. Our resident Yenko owners, Bruce and Seth were unable to attend, but shared photos and a brief write-up from other attendees....

Chevrolet’s Air~Cooled Flat~Six Was Influenced By The Volkswagen Flat~Four And Horizontally~Opposed Aircraft And Tank Engines

Article by Mike McNessor and published by Hemmings. The original article complete with ads and popups can be found here While the Corvair did bring turbocharging to the masses in ’62, the Turbo Air 6 was Chevrolet’s name for the naturally aspirated base engine that made its debut in ’60. Initially, the six displaced 140-cubic inches but, in ’61, the bores were enlarged from 3.375 inches to 3.437 inches raising the engine size to 145 cu.in....

6-Day Wonder: Sterling’s Stealth ’64 Corvair Full Respray

By Gabe Lopez, Owner of Sterling Restorations It’s not often in the restoration business that you encounter a 60-year-old classic car that’s, well, almost perfect. For those of us who make a living sanding, welding, and fixing decades of rust and poor repairs, finding a truly solid foundation is the equivalent of striking gold. That's exactly what happened when I took on a project for a great customer and great friend, Bruce Mooers....
