In the beginning of June this year, I began working as an ecological restoration intern at the Cosumnes River Preserve with the American Conservation Experience. It has been a wonderful opportunity thus far, and I have learned so much about the ecology of this region. I really look forward to using this new expertise in field courses with , so that I can share this knowledge with others!

Daddy-daughter adventures with my oldest. The day before was really tough on her, so I asked her if she wanted to go to a lake or see gigantic trees. She picked the latter, so off to Calaveras Big Trees State Park we went!

While there, I started telling Rae about why we named her little sister Sequoia, about the ecology of the forest, and about the burned out “tree tunnels” scattered throughout the grove. As soon as little Rae heard about the tree tunnels, she was dead-set on finding them, and when we finally found one, she was ecstatic, and we went through it several times. Then covered in soot, sweat, and smiles, we hiked on back to the car.

I am so grateful for the amazing public parks and lands nearby that make these trips possible.

Just saw the new Superman movie with my brother, and I think it might be one of the best superhero movies I have seen in a decade. Definitely worth going to see, especially when your brother makes wok popcorn beforehand.

We’ve won the latest round against Mike Lee trying to sell off our public lands, but the fight is not over yet. He just amended the bill to include less land, but we’re still talking well over 1.2 million acres of public land that will be sold to the highest bidder. I will get more information out to you all tomorrow about the next step forward in the battle, but we’re going to win this. Let’s keep the pressure hot on our senators.

Chicory appreciation post! These beautiful purple/bluish flowers are popping up everywhere in the Sacramento Valley right now, and they make me smile every time I see them!
