PUBLIC WARNING: The $1,200 Grocery Card Ads Are Misleading and Potentially Harmful
Lately, TV and streaming platforms have been flooded with ads claiming that seniors can get a $1,200 Medicare Grocery Card. These ads look professional and sound official but the message is misleading, and people need to be aware of what’s really going on.
Medicare does NOT offer a $1,200 grocery card. There is no universal program, no new benefit, and no nationwide card available to everyone.
What does exist: Some Medicare Advantage plans offer small monthly food or OTC allowances, usually $25 to $200, and only for people who qualify for specific Special Needs Plans. That’s a far cry from the $1,200 being advertised.
Why these ads are dangerous: Many of these companies are lead generators. Their goal is to collect your personal information including your Medicare number, Social Security Number, and use it to switch your insurance plan or sell your data to other marketers. Some people have even been enrolled in new plans without their knowledge or consent.
Red flags to watch for:
High pressure call now tactics
Promises of large, guaranteed benefits
Requests for Medicare numbers or personal details
Claims that everyone qualifies
Bottom line: If an ad promises a huge grocery card or a new Medicare benefit, be cautious. Verify information directly with Medicare or a trusted local agent not a random call center from a TV commercial.
Protect your information. Protect your benefits. Don’t fall for misleading ads.
Thesse call centers operate overseas and out of Law Enforcement to actually make any arrests.
Thousands of complaints have poured in with no end in sight.
Please educate yourself and others. DO NOT REPLY TO ANY OF THESE TV AD FRAUDULENT TACTICS.
