We received a small grant from Michigan Humanities last year for our film series and have submitted another one to bring an innovative sound artist to Benzie next year. Arts and cultural programming enhance and strengthen our community.

Michigan could soon be the only state in America with ZERO arts funding.

The House of Representatives recently passed a budget that eliminates the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, cutting $11 million in grants that currently support arts and culture organizations in all 83 counties.

If this proposal moves forward, Michigan would fall to 50th in the nation for arts investment.

That means thousands of jobs at risk, damage to local economies, and fewer opportunities for students statewide.

But this story isn’t finished yet.

Stay tuned, share the facts, and help spread the word about what’s at stake for Michigan’s creative sector.

Jack visits Benzie every summer and this summer he stopped in for an interview on WUWU 100.1 Community Radio. He then came in to produce his own music show. Returning home, he said he would love to intern with the station- so he'll be helping out this semester by putting together a news package for us. He became a member of the station and contributed $15 to our building campaign! We're looking for local youth that would like to get involved with the radio station. If you know someone, have them reach out to us. Local radio gives local people a voice. Be like Jack - get involved!

The Elberta Heritage Center is excited to move into the The Elberta Mercantile Co. building next year. WUWU 100.1 Community Radio will also be building out a studio in one room of the building. It will help keep the space active and open to the public. We will be hosting a meeting in the fall to get your ideas on exhibits and programs for next year. Let us know if you'd like to be involved!
