Pangolins are the most trafficked mammal you’ve never heard of. Uniquely covered in tough, overlapping scales, pangolins eat ants and termites using an extraordinarily long, sticky tongue. They are able to quickly roll themselves up into a tight, safe ball when they feel threatened. Their armor even protects them from the teeth of lions. This design began as a pangolin paper sculpture. I photographed it and then colorized it in Photoshop.

Born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Judy Garland is an iconic American actress. A pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, was stolen in 2005. The slippers, valued up to $3 million, were recovered in a 2018 FBI sting operation. Renée Zellweger did an incredible job playing Judy in the 2019 film, Judy.

I painted this portrait of Judy and used her actual signature in front of her first name with a photo of the ruby slippers within the letters.

~ ~ Ever set something on top of your car and forget about it? ~ ~ Colorful Seasons is one of my favorite stores in Alexandria. For a class project, I created a new logo for them, and designed a series of billboard ads. Their staff helped me photograph my car in their parking lot—then I took a photo of downtown Alexandria and used Photoshop to put my car in the photo.

Did anyone else know that Gene Wilder (1933–2016) was married to Saturday Night Live's talented 70s actress, Gilda Radner? It is amazing what you find out when you study celebrity lives. This illustration of Gene began as a piece of cardboard, some glue, and a ball of string. Gesso was used to give dimension to his facial features. After painting the portrait, I added copper wire to bring out the texture of his hair and other line work. I photographed it, worked on it in Adobe Photoshop—then put the illustration in this magazine layout.
