WHAT DO YOU SAY TO YOUR RACE CAR?

“…I'm gonna shave half an inch off you and shape you like a bullet. I'll get you primed, painted and weighed, and you'll be ready to go out on that racetrack. Hear me? You're gonna be perfect.” — Harry Hogge, Days of Thunder

The Cowboys Ride Away

In the late 1980s and early ’90s, the Ram Tough era was living its last, glorious chapters—and at the center of it all were three names that still echo in the desert: Rod Hall, Chad Hall, and Jim Fricker. 🏁🌵

By then, Dodge’s factory off-road program with Hall and Fricker had already become the stuff of legend. Rod and Jim had turned the boxy Dodge 4x4 into a winning machine, stacking up an unprecedented streak of 35+ straight SCORE/HDRA class wins in Class 4 during the early ’80s—still one of the most insane records in off-road history.

As the miles and the years piled up, Chad Hall stepped in, carrying the Hall name into a new generation of Dodge race trucks. The team kept hammering SCORE and HDRA events, pushing those long-bed Dodges harder and farther while most of the competition moved to other brands or tube-chassis race trucks. Even as the sport evolved, the Hall/Fricker Dodge pickups stayed instantly recognizable: tall stance, big lights, leaf springs working overtime, and that raw, mechanical truck feel that fans still obsess over today.

The “last years” of the Dodge partnership weren’t a quiet fade-out—they were a victory lap. Rod Hall was already a Baja 1000 legend with over 160 major wins and 25 Baja 1000 class victories, and he was still racking up results in the Ram while the next chapter (Hummer, Dakar, etc.) waited in the wings.

Eventually, the factory Dodge era came to a close as programs shifted and the Halls moved on to new platforms. But if you were trackside or standing in the desert back then, you remember the sound of that Dodge V8 bouncing off the revs, the yellow/white/red trucks charging through the dust, and Rod, Chad, and Jim grinding out miles long after sunset. That partnership didn’t just race trucks—it defined what a factory-backed off-road truck looked like.

🔥 If you remember seeing those Dodge trucks run—or dream about finding an old Hall/Fricker Ram in a barn somewhere—drop a comment, share a photo, or tag someone who was there.

Ram Tough. Hall strong. 🐏
Once Dodge and the Halls hit the desert, the game was never the same. 💪🏜️

🔥 Mopar fans… let’s talk LEGEND. 🔥

Back in the late ‘70s, Chrysler dropped one of the coolest racing programs most people STILL don’t know enough about — the Chrysler Kit Car 🏁💥

Designed for short-track oval racing, these were purpose-built race cars you could literally order straight from Dodge or Plymouth dealerships. Imagine walking into a showroom and buying a near-race-ready Super Stock machine in crate form. 🤯

Here’s what made the Kit Car a beast:

⚙️ Tubular chassis engineered for durability and corner grip
⚡ High-revving LA small-block V8 options — including the iconic 360
📦 Delivered with everything from suspension geometry to headers and spoiler included
🛠️ Bolt it together, add your own finishing touches, and… go win races.

These monsters were terrorizing dirt and asphalt bullrings under the lights across America — especially when tuned by guys who knew how to make Mopar power sing. The 360 Kit Cars were notorious for pulling strong out of the turns and leaving Bowtie and Blue Oval fans scratching their heads. 😏

Though only a few hundred were produced, their impact still echoes today. Kit Cars helped bring Mopar performance to the local Saturday-night racer — a hands-on racing dream that never got enough spotlight.

💬 If Chrysler offered a modern Kit Car — would you race one? Or throw it in the garage as the ultimate Mopar project?

Drop a 🐏 in the comments if you love forgotten Mopar history.
Drop a 🔧 if you’d build one TODAY.

Like my race Dad said…

Be the show, or win the show. Make it memorable.

Racing ain’t just about winning or losing, it’s about you, your brand, and putting asses in the seats!

📺 IT LOOKS WIDER ON TV 📏

You hear the old saying ‘the camera adds 10lbs,’ well I swear it does the same thing for race tracks! It feels like it adds about an extra 10ft of width.

The split lanes are a unique feature. They zig and zag on top of being mostly sand. You tend to drift side to side and hope to not swipe the walls. It’s also the last obstacle leading up to the dreaded whoops section. Carrying momentum through the sand is a must if you want to sail through the whoops cleanly.

WANT TO LEARN A NEW SKILL?

Get in so deep that the only way up is to figure it out… That never resonated with me until now. I am grateful for the painful lessons my rookie year provided.

Now, it’s time to reload for 2026!
