and serves an area of five mostly rural counties in the northeastern corner of North Carolina. They include Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans, and Chowan counties. Because of the business and developmental links in the region, The Daily Advance coverage also frequently reaches into Gates and Dare counties.

From Camden County Sheriff's Office - NC regarding gunshot victim at SAMC:

At approximately 3:38pm, September 15, 2026, the Camden County Sheriff's Office received a call about a gunshot victim at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City. Multiple agencies were dispatched due to the unknown location of the shooting incident. Investigators with the Camden County Sheriff's Office interviewed the victim at the Hospital. Information obtained from and statements made by the victim; it appears to be an isolated incident due to an unsafe use of a firearm. This incident "Reportedly Happened" in Camden County. At this time there is no known threat to the Camden community.
