At a shelter in Tennessee, two senior cats—Maxine and Jasper—sit quietly, side by side, their eyes searching every passing face. For years, they knew nothing but love, soft beds, and the gentle voice of the person who raised them. But life had other plans.

Their owner, facing health challenges and no longer able to provide care, made the heartbreaking decision to surrender them—hoping someone else would give them the comfort they deserve in their golden years.

Now, at 13 and 14 years old, Maxine and Jasper are adjusting to a world that feels unfamiliar and cold. They don’t play like kittens or demand attention—but their love runs deep. They’re quiet companions who just want a warm lap, a sunlit window, and someone to remind them they’re still cherished.

Senior cats are often overlooked in shelters. But what they offer in return is unmatched: gratitude, calm companionship, and unwavering loyalty.

They may not have decades ahead—but they have love left to give. So much love.

Please share their story. Let’s help Maxine and Jasper find a home where they can spend their remaining days together, safe and adored. Because love doesn’t have an age limit. 🐾❤️

We found her by the side of the road in Texas—scared, silent, and unsure of the world around her. But something in her eyes said, “I’m ready for love.” We scooped her up, gave her a warm bath, a full belly, and a soft place to rest. And just like that, Rowan became family.

It’s been almost two months now, and every day she surprises us with her gentle heart and goofy personality. She’s playful, cuddly, and wicked smart—but we’re still curious about her roots. We haven’t done the DNA test yet, but we’re definitely planning to. Any guesses? Maybe a little Shepherd? Some Lab? A sprinkle of mystery for sure!

No matter what her mix is, one thing’s certain—Rowan is 100% love.

From roadside rescue to the center of our home and hearts, she’s a daily reminder that the best things in life often come unexpectedly. 🤍

With age… your eyes may stop seeing up close, and your ears may miss the distant sounds.
You sleep fewer hours, you walk a little slower—
But something beautiful begins to happen.

You start loving yourself a little more.
You carry fewer regrets.
And you begin to chase your own happiness—without apology.

You become selective with your circle.
Only the real ones remain.
You stop searching for answers you already carry inside, and you no longer need unsolicited advice.

You don’t greet those who never greeted you.
And you no longer waste energy arguing with people who don’t know how to listen.

With the years, you realize:
There’s only one life—and it’s far too precious to live in fear.

So you slow down.
You savor the little moments.
You embrace your wrinkles.
And you stop giving the mirror the power to define your worth.

Because growing older isn’t about fading.
It’s about finally shining—on your own terms. 💫

Very early this spring, a pregnant cat showed up at our home that we’re restoring. We currently live 16 miles away but have our camper at this home for times when we can stay overnight. It was still cool, sometimes cold at night, and on the nights when she wanted to stay inside, I let her, since I would be there early the next day to let her out. We also had food, water, and a litter box set up for her in the camper, and she had access to a shed if she didn’t stay in.

One day, she did not show up to stay inside. It was going to be rather cold, so I made sure she could get inside the shed if needed.

The next two days, we saw no sign of her and were thinking she must have found her way back to her original home.

The third day, she showed up and was no longer pregnant. She had her kittens somewhere. I fixed her some food and water and left the camper door open, so she could get out to go to her babies while I worked inside the house. Later that day, I went out to the camper to prepare our dinner, and she was there. I said, "Little mama, you need to care for your babies." I petted her and went on with my work.

A few minutes later, I heard a faint meow. I looked under the sofa in the camper and saw a cute little kitten. No mama to be seen. But a few minutes later, I heard my husband talking to her as she came in with her second kitten. She went out again and came back with the stillborn body of a third kitten. She did not bring the deceased kitten in but dropped it outside in front of my husband.

He built a little wooden box and we buried it for her. She came inside with the two kittens. We took all three to the vet. The mom had had difficulty with the delivery of the stillborn. The vet said she may not pull through, as it looked like she had had a rough life before she found us. She seemed to be doing well. She fed the babies and took good care of them, taught them to use the litter box. She sat in my lap every evening and the kitties played in the area she chose for them.

I noticed she seemed to be weak and lethargic one day, and I carried her back to the vet's. The vet was surprised she was still with us. We believe she wanted to make sure her babies were going to be loved and cared for and ready for a home.

She died sitting in my lap. I wish she had found us sooner so she could have had a better, longer life. She is buried beside her baby. And the other two are quite a pair. Happy and healthy and very loving like their mom. The boy sits in my lap like his mom did, and the girl is crazy about my husband. Both of them go everywhere we go.

The rescue that rescued me.Tenshi (F2) and I (56M) met at the Salt Lake County animal shelter 5 days ago. She had been there for over 107 days, mainly because her profile on the website said she needed a special person and she was dog averse. I thought that sounded perfect because I needed a special dog after my beautiful Akita passed over the rainbow bridge several months ago, and am people averse.

Turns out the shelter thought Temshi's special person needed to be female. After a 20 minute interview (interrogation) by the front end staff and another 30 minutes of the same from the kennel handler, my wish for a meet up was granted.

They let her into the yard and she made several laps around the fence line aggressively barking at the other dogs. I called out her name, she ran directly at me with the look of a demon in her eyes, promptly sat and rested her head on my knee.

Five minutes later, after the handler and I were done crying, I took her home. I can tell you now my life and heart have never been so full. We are both broken (badly) but in just five days I have helped her in small ways to heal and at the same time she has helped me heal in major ways. The rescuer has become the rescued.

A dog waits for his missing family after the Texas floods 💔

"Hours after the Guadalupe River receded, a brown pitbull named Hulk, whose family and half their riverside house were swept away by the July 4 flooding, returned to the wreckage of his home. He settled atop a torn-up floorboard, turned up his nose, and sniffed the air. A day later, he hadn’t budged, and friends and neighbors called Kerrville Pets Alive, a local nonprofit no-kill animal shelter, concerned that the dog might be hurt. When the shelter sent its vet team to assess the situation, it found that he wasn’t injured—he was waiting for his family to return.
